Again, could you include a list of the titles you're looking to confirm, as has become the standard for these common name-finding threads? Now you're just asking "what's the common name for person XXX?", without any kind of further input from yourself. You don't seem to be confirming any credits yourself, and you're not providing a list of credits that need to be confirmed - meaning that even when users confirm a few credits, we have no way of knowing if we've reached a definitive outcome just yet. Just asking "what's the common name?" without anything else really isn't going to help much...

I'm more than happy to confirm a number of credits for you, but rather than asking the same question a hundred times for a hundred different people, why don't you start by doing it right for, say, five names to begin with? Provide some additional info, a list of titles, and confirm the credits in your own database. That way, these threads might actually yield some results.

Unless, of course, actual results is not what you're after, and you're really just trying to "make a point"...

I have to agree with Tim... I have already gotten to the point where if you aren't going to take care of the threads that you are starting for common names... then I see no sense in trying to help you with them. No list of movies for each name variant... no keeping track of which name variant has how many titles. Just throwing out threads for each names and then forgetting about them. If you are not willing to take care of the threads you start then I can't see going through the trouble to help in them.

I have to agree.
Wiithout updating the posts and a list of the checked movies it isn't gonna help. Those threads won't be helpful and will look like a kind of mock-up to show the problems of the current CLT situation. I hope this is not the intention of all the new threads.

There are several ways to take this problem and try to correct it. I chose to review my collection in order to list the problems and open corresponding threads. This should be done very quickly, since T!M stated clearly those cases are pretty rare. As soon as the threads are complete (for my collection, I mean), I shall take in account data sent by other users, and complete with mine. Unfortunately, I have not enough time to do everything at the same time, but I think my method is the one which is the most efficient for me.

Sorry if it is not exactly what you wish.

PS. I hope those posts which have nothing to do with the main subject of the thread are not a way to try to make it derail. Methods should be discussed elsewhere, or by PM, not by hijacking a specific thread. I shall not answer here to any other question concerning method.

And least efficient for most others. It causes problems with...

- clogging up the contribution forum... making it difficult to find threads about other subjects. This would be different if we had a sub-forum for these as was asked for that you were so totally against at the time.

- As another member stated... gives problems to those who use the Today's Active Topics link.

- If you don't add the titles of movies/shows for each person in the first post most people are not going to bother helping as they don't need the extra work of searching out titles just to find out if we have titles with the person you are asking about to try to help.

The way you are doing it now I can't see helping any more then the couple of titles I already did.

Of course it is, since you haven't done anything except repeatedly throwing out a "what's the common name for..."-question without any other input whatsoever. I can see how that's "efficient" for you, but it's pretty pointless as well - especially since, as this exchange proves, your method seems to alienate the people you're depending on to confirm credits for you. It's pretty much a self-fulfilling prophecy: you don't put in the effort, so others won't either, and the result is bound to be a failure. Though again, I can't help but wonder if that's not exactly what you're aiming for... If so, the only point you will have proven, though, is that people are more than willing to confirm credits for you if you put in some effort yourself as well, but less willing to do so when you're not bringing any input or even a bit of structure to these threads. No surprise there, really.

Bottom line: if you're at all serious about this, then put in the effort. No need to do a hundred straight away - just start with a few, but do them properly. If all this is just an attempt to make a point, and you have no real intent to follow through on any of these threads, then please don't bother creating a hundred more.

We have a winner folks!

I'd be more than happy to help out with these common name threads (which at this point, actually define the term trolling...), but it's painfully obvious (and has been since the first thread that surfeur51 posted... not that he was actually ever trying to hide it) that the actual common name for these people is not the results surfeur51 is after. He's got another game entirely to play... he's got a point to make, and he's going to do it.

Some of the obvious and purposefully transparent remarks made in this thread alone are proof enough of that (if the threads themselves weren't), and it's actually quite sad that he would resort to these kind of tactics to make his point.

Too bad he seems so intent on working against everyone else instead of working with them. The results he desires might actually be achieved through a little teamwork rather than the cowpie he's throwing out here.
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

It is sufficient for you that Merrik vomit his hatred to judge my action ??? Please ask him to quote the "the obvious and purposefully transparent remarks made in this thread" that are "proof enough of that ".
