Hi

Just bought the iPhone version and updated desktop to 3.7. Set up the sync as detailed but iPhone can't connect to the PC.

I checked the IP addresses and they're both on the same subnet. The PC is hard wired to the router, iPhone is wireless. If I try to ping the iPhone from the PC, the PC can't see the iPhone - so I'm guessing that's why the sync isn't working. I've tried disabling firewalls, but nothing - any clues please otherwise the software is as much use as a chocolate tea-pot.

Thanks

The PC doesn't have to be able to see the iPhone, but the iPhone must be able to see the PC and the PC has to be able to open the selected port as a server.  What are the IPs for the PC and phone?

192.168.56.3 for the PC 192.168.56.5 for the iPhone.

Did you change the default port? For instance set it to 80 or 8080. Those are most likely to be used by other software aswell so should already be cleared by one or more firewalls.
Check if you can connect with one of those.

Does the bottom bar of DVD Profiler show that it is shared?  If so, as Izo indicated the most likely culprit is a firewall. Changing the port is a good place to start.

Had already disabled firewalls (hardware and software) and yes, it is shown as shared (checked all that before the post).
Also had already tried port 8080, will try port 80.

Doesn't like/want me to use port 80 - I get a "Could not bind socket. Address and port are already in use" error.

Forgive me for asking, but did you check all firewalls? Windows firewall maybe?
I ask because earlier this week one person had problems, and finally he came to the coclusion that he also had ESET running with firewall activated....

Nope - the windows firewall is always disabled by Kaspersky (and myself) when installed. I checked when I disabled Kaspersky etc just to be sure and not look like a noob. It's definitely disabled.

Have just pinged my PC from the iPhone and it says that there's no response from the host.

A complete port scan says it can find my other iPhone, my Android phone and the router - basically only wireless devices, nothing that's hard wired to the router itself.

Seems the issue is router end - i.e. not allowing wireless devices to see the hard wired LAN.

Probelm solved - wireless setting had it seperate LAN from WAN - as soon as I removed the option, I could find the wired hardware and thus sync without disabling firewalls etc.

Strange to have that enabled by default though (bad Buffalo!)

Thanks for the advice.
