'lo

I think the subtitles information could be more detailed. Listing the available languages only covers this feature on a very basic level, leaving out a lot of information that I think might be quite valuable.

- discerning between "normal" subtitles and subtitles for the hearing impaired.
There's a significant difference between those two. Especially for people that are hearing impaired and are relying on that type of subtitles, the confirmation that a disc actually has them would be worth gold. Some discs actually have both normal and hearing impaired subs for a given language. Would be nice to document that, too.

- languages for commentary subtitles
It is not always obvious what language subtitles for an audio commentary are in. Also, quite a few multi-lingual releases have multiple subtitles for the commentary.

- subtitles for bonus features
This has already been suggested a while ago.

I'm aware that adding these details, especially the last one, would pose some difficulties. But I think the additional value is at least worth considering it.

+1.

In addition to the second point. I noticed that in my country some distributors choose not to subtitle bonus features (especially when these are in English, as most Dutch have some grasp of English) and some do. So making a distinction in the profile here would mean to potential buyers the opportunity to see whether the bonus features could be meaningful to them or not.
Of course this equally applies for the usefulness to the hearing impaired.

We also have a situation here in Australia where we have closed captions, which is basically similar to subtitles for the hearing impaired but it's different to Closed Captions as per the USA model. They have descriptive text for various sounds and actions as well as the subtitles and a "CC" logo on the covers.

So yes, maybe the field needs to be expanded.

There is a field in the Audio section "Audio Descriptive" which is where this data goes.

I was under the impression "Audio Descriptive" was in actual fact an audio track

The quickest explanation of it that I could find was "Audio description is the auditory narration of visual representations such as television programs, films and live performances. During gaps in dialogue, it describes visual elements such as scenes, settings, actions and costumes.."

Not much good for the deaf I don't think. :-)  I was originally referring to text based things on the screen, other then normal subtitles there are descriptive text which can be often seen as "subtitles for the hearing impaired" or, as I was pointing out here in Australia, as "closed captions" (but not the same as USA closed captions). This generally results in the normal subtitles in white text plus yellow text appearing in other areas of the screen describing sounds like "bang" "glass breaks" or whatever.

Correct. There is no subtitle option for audio descriptive; if there is one you'd have to categorise it as a language, or as 'other' if a proper language subtitle is also there.

Actually, colour usage and whether or not the subtitles to indicate sounds are in italics or within brackets or... is a convention that tends to differ per country. For instance, subtitles are often in yellow in USA releases but in white in The Netherlands (like subtitles on Dutch TV).

But let's not derail the OP by focusing on just one issue. IMO all reasons are valid arguments.

You might be right but this is how I've seen it done.

But, I agree with eommen, this area could use some updating.

If you see it in future, now you know to vote no, or you can correct the info. You (general) don't list anykind of subtitles in audio tracks fields.

Try this:  http://www.invelos.com/UserProfile.aspx?Alias=Fl%26%23229%3bklypa

The PM link translates the "å" to "%26%23229%3b" but the User Profile link fails to do so.
