On the contribution voting page, "The Avengers" is showing up under the letter "M".

Probably because the current online title is "Marvel's The Avengers"?

You can see the online database title when you go to the contribution comparison screen.

It in fact is not a matter of how it is listed in the maindatabase, but how it is listed in your database.
Provided, of course, that your online-profile mirrors your local preferences.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Well, that depends on where you're looking. This is the same contribution. First on the "Unvoted Pending Changes" screen, then in the Contribution Evaluation screen:

Close. After some testing, the letter the title shows up under is based on your Sort Title. Since the sort title never changes in the online db once created, it'll always show up under "M" unless they change the sort title and sync.

Bingo!  I figured this out a while ago...back before custom collections.  I used to prefix my TV series sort titles with 'Zz', so they would sort at the bottom of my list.  When they came up for vote, they would show under the 'Z' tab.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
