What I was after was a program to simply catalog and list my DVD / Blu-Ray collection so I could share the list with friends. I bought DVD Profiler for iOS.

Now, after cataloging all my disks I find that there is no way for me to print or even email a list of titles to myself.

I though I was buying a complete application, not something that would require multiple other purchases. I DO NOT have a Windows PC - my devices are iOS, OS X, and Android.

So, is there any way to save this minor disaster, and even just get a simple list of my titles out of this partial app, or do i just mark it up to a waste of time and money and start over with something that works?

BTW, the iOS app works great scanning most barcodes and loading the disk info, but that is all it does - everything else requires a Windows PC and more software, neither of which I have.

You can upload your collection to the Invelos website and give the link to all your friends or look at it from any computer.

Thanks, Doombear, I thought that, too, and in fact created an account and uploaded my catalog of disks from my iPad (it uploaded 50 of 109 that I have in so far, but that's another question entirely), and then I find that even I cannot look at what is there on MY computer, let alone someone else being able to look at it.

All I end up getting is a complaint from the server telling me yet again that I need to buy, register, and run their PC app on a Windows PC - which is still no help as I DO NOT HAVE a Windows PC.

As a workaround you may want to try phpDVDProfiler.
Don't use it myself, so I can't say anything about its capabilities with the iOS-version.
But it is under frequent development and if it is possible FredLooks will do his best to implement your wishes and needs.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

phpDVDprofiler requires the XML export file generated by the windows version of DVD Profiler, so it won't help, sorry to say.

Any further ideas/suggestions, folks??

Do I need to just bite the bullet and try to get my money back from Invelos?

It kinda sucks, but the app description makes it clear that the desktop version is required for printing reports.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

It however does NOT make it clear that the only way to share information with anyone is to physically take that one device to them and show it to them. The fact that nothing can be printed/emailed/saved to a file is rather ridiculous. Even just a simple list of titles to email a friend so they can say "Gee! I'd like to see that one!"

Not being able to even do that makes the application incomplete.

The fact that to even be able to share a list of titles by uploading to the "Free On-Line Account" is not possible without ALSO having a Windows PC application seals the deal in making the app useless.

It catalogs nicely, but once it catalogs one's collection it is simply stuck on that one device and cannot be shared, even just as a list of titles.

Two important words are missing in this statement:

... for you

The iOS-app was developed as an enhancement to the Windows-Desktop version (quite similar to the discontinued Windows-CE release) in times when the iPhone was about the only smartphone available. And believe it or not, it is not unheard of, that the only piece of Mac-hardware to be found in otherwise Microsoft infested households is an iPhone.
Granted, releasing an iOS-version without having an OSX release ready is probably not the best strategy one can think of. On the other hand the market share of OSX simply doesn't justify the development for a niche-product like DVDProfiler (at least not for an affordable license-fee).

In the meantime you may want to take an emulator into consideration, which, in combination with the free version of DVDProfiler and the afore-mentioned phpDVDProfiler would help you with your problems.

This article on How to run DVDProfiler on a Mac may be of assistance.

if you own more than 2 Will Ferrell films, you've wasted more than what you paid for the app. Even if they were in the 5 dollar bin.
