I think we should have the ability to insert multiply languages for one audio track. I dont mean if they speak few sentences n the movie on another language, but when the movie is in many languages.

e.g. Kukushka has Sami, Finnish and Russian.

I think it's overkill to assign multiple individual languages to one audio track. Those rare cases could be solved, if we'd had a language option "Multi". With that we can not track the actual languages used. But at least we could track the fact, that it is more than one.

"Night On Earth" is an other such example.

No, I would not do that. At least not for "Night on Earth". Even though there are 2 episodes in English and only one in Italian and one in Finnish, I have marked the audio as "Other" and not "English". An language option "Multi" would come handy though.

It has 3 main characters, all speak their own language. So basicly there is no single dominant language in that movie. Plus its a Russian movie.

I've also seen this with some Hong Kong movies where they speak 2 languages.

I dont mean adding e.g. Chinese to Firefly, just because theres few frases in it. I mean movies that are in multiply languages.

If I may ask what seems to me to be a pertinent question. What Language(s) does the DVD Distributor list for the Disc, that's the key to the languages. the disc, not the film. In the US one that comes to mind is The Longest Day, Lots of language in German and English in the script, but the disc is STILL English. I fear if you wish to start defining every piece of trivia related to any given film we will wind up with data lock, a system so complex and difficult for ANY user to simply make use of, or enter the data...they simply won't.

We have an adage in the U.S that i learned many years ago, KISS the customer(user); Keep It Simple, Stupid. It is all too true. Way back when I was still living in a cave    I remember a company that decided to start selling computers in specialized stores, they shall remain nameless but the computer was the old TRS-80 . They thought they were really smart and hard data analysts as salesman, the poor customers eyes would simply glaze over when the salesman did a memory dump on them, it took them a long time to figure it out. This is a road I am not sure is advisable to go down. Just a thought.

there is also German language in that movie (Saami / Finnish / Russian / German)
as you state yourself it is a Rusian movie the language should be Russian

I understand the problem. We have 3 Languages here in Belgium (Duth, French, German) and there are Belgian productions where the three are used (But still it would be a Flemisch, French or German spoken movie)

In my opinion it's not! For example the German DVD of "Quest for Fire" lists German as language even though not a single word in German is spoken during the whole movie. It should be definitely marked  as "Other" in profiler. Also "Night On Earth" is definitely not "English". "Other" (or possibly "Multi" in the future) is the much better choice.

Hey I have a movie like that called 'The Cuckoo'!

Ok, I know that is the English title for the same film.

Very good film. For the R1 release we have the audio listed as Russian, but Multi would be far better. The French film known in the US as "The Science of Sleep" is one more that could use this audio type.

I like the 'multi' idea.

THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VERONIQUE is another example. Roughly one third in Polish and two thirds in French. The back cover of the Criterion disk says it's "In Polish and French with optional English subtitles". The audio track is encoded on to the disc as Polish 2.0 Surround.

Yes, I have seen plenty of UK discs of foreign movies where they are just lazily encoded onto the disc as English 5.1 or whatever, even though the films themselves are French, German, Danish, etc.

I'm not agains the "Multi" option if Ken agress to add it but if he doesn't I don't think it should be what the distributor claims, I think it should what the Disc claims, I.E what is displayed in the menu and/or on the screen when you select that specific audio track.

Babel is another recent title that uses English, Morrocan, Spanish and Japanese more or less equally throughout the movie. The main audio track for this however states English for this option. So the age old question is "as credited" vs. what's actually on the film.

I do not agree! Neither the cover nor the encoding label on the disc should be relevant. The only relevant  part is what's actually spoken in the film. If the language spoken is not available in profiler or if a revelant part is spoken in more than one language "Other" has to be selected today. If a future version would have the option "Multi", this would be a improvement.
