| Posted: | | | | Where should the values for genre come from?
I was looking at some of my tv show dvd profiles last night (specifically the voltron volumes) and while you would think that since they are all the same show they would have the same genre this was not the case.
is there some official source for genre? and what determines the order that the genre are listed in?

| Posted: | | | | There is no official source for Genre... as everyone looks at genres of shows/movies differently. For example... what some people look at as a horror movie... others may look at as suspense/thriller. Who is right?... no one can really say as they all look at it in their own terms. Which is why the rules are the way they are... Quote: Genres are often a matter of personal interpretation, which can differ among users. If your personal preference for Genre differs from the main database, you can store the information you prefer in your local database and lock the Genre field from further updates. Do not make contributions that only change or re-order Genres, unless the existing Genre list is blatantly incorrect. The best bet... what I do... is (unless I am contributing a new profile or there is spaces left) I change the genres to my liking locally and lock the profile... not contributing them. | | | Pete |
