| Posted: | | | | I can see points for both arguments. How about using Dividers, people? They were'nt available before, now they are... Just a thought. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Why use dividers? And why not add the crew and cast? If a Michael Minkler is credited as Sound Editor of "The Abyss - Special Edition", shouldn't he then be part of the profile according to the rules - or am I so stupid and bad in English that I don't comprehend the rules?! (Me thinksss not... ) | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | Berak: The rationale for using dividers OR some method different from what we ahve now, is that if you just list Michael Minkler, there is NO discriminator to separate him from those that did the ORIGINAL sound work on the film. Under the OLD 2.X system you would wind up with a pile of meaningless data that does not adequately define who did what and when. Some additional dividers are in the works, I believe that will alleviate this issue. Ideally, assuming some control issues can be figured out, we would have an open Crew data list, so that we could do away the current issues trying to fit many jobs, sometimes not quite correctly into the list. With that we could list what we see and improve the accuracy of the data, BUT as you can imagine that carries with it some problems as well. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | IMO Special Edition Crew, if appended to the credits, is different to unit crew. After all, you are (were) watching the special edition, so the sound, editing, whatever, was actually to a substantial part done by those people, and the studio was so inclined to credit them for that.
We previously were against them, as Skip points out, due to the lack of differentiating them. Now we have dividers, so we could add them in that manner.
Of course, I also understand Dan W pointing out, that using dividers for anything else than dividing episodes/films, is possibly a can of worms... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | OK - what if the cast section is different in the Special Edition/Director's Cut version of a film. Do we then watch the credits for the theatrical release and profile that, or do we add them as credited in the SE/Director's Cut? | | | Berak

The Rules are fairly clear on this aspect, though it is an extension of the logic.
Running Time Use the Running time specified on the DVD cover unless you can verify there is a discrepancy between that and the actual Running time. When contributing an accurate, DVD-based, time from the DVD, round down from 29 seconds and up from 30 seconds in the nearest minute. Include your verification method in your Contribution Notes. For instance, note that a given movie has an actual Running time of 119: 37, Running time would be 120 even if the case said 119 or 121.
For branching titles, or those with multiple versions (e.g. Theatrical and Director's Cut) on the same disc, use the longest running time. Exception: If the longer version is available only as part of an Easter Egg, use the shorter running time.
So it would follow that if you are using the longest running time as described the rest of the data should also come from that same area, save for the Restoration Crew for the reasons noted, but this will come sometime down the road. Just be patient.

| Posted: | | | | Yup - sounds logical when put that way... I'll keep my Special Edition/Director's Cut additions local until it's been decided what to add and how to do it... I still can't see why people would want them left out though, but that's just my opinion.. (Smaken er som baken - todelt ). Keep on rockin' folks.... | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Berak: Quote: The contribution referred to by Pompel is for "The Abyss - Special Edition" made by me. There are two versions available on this DVD - the original theatrical release and the special edition (director's cut if you will). The cast section is identical for both versions, but in the end of the special edition version you get crew listings of people involved in the Special Edition. These credits are not identified as second unit crew but credited on the same basis as the crew for the theatrical version - give me one good reason why they should not be included in the db?! And Director's cuts and Special Editions do not count as a Special Feature (ref. Kevins post).
As for being attacked by the contributor, Pompel, you have on several occasions voted no on contributions based on non-existing rules and personal opinions. On most occassions I have PM'ed you and tried to explain that you are voting against the rules, but you have thus far failed to take the hint (with the exeption of this time ). I am FED UP with morons bending the rules to suit their own need and I will post a complaint regarding your blatant disregard for the rules when voting. I reckon I am not the only one having this problem with you. You even admit that you vote no without having checked if your vote is violating the rules!
And for the record; the existing profile for "The Abyss" contained so many errors that I checked the cast listing against IMDB, and lo and behold - it matched to the letter.. As I have allready explained to you morron, is that this is not my profile. I loaded it from IVS an did nothing to it since. If I am not mistaken I actually think you submitted this profile on IVS. So before you try to shoot at others, look to yourself first. But since you now have pointed out that it is full of errors, I will personaly do an audit myself. But I am not going to contribute it. I am fed up. I will not contibute anymore. And don't come here with total cowpie. It was you who attacked me in a private message. I won't say what you said, because it's not suited on this forum. You come and attack me and then you try to push the blame on me. Well, I will not drop down to your level. | | | Last edited: by pompel9 |
