| Posted: | | | | HD DVD and Blu-Ray, prefer HD DVD. What I like better about HD DVD: - I have two HD DVD players and only one Blu-Ray. - Highly interactive titles are sometimes very s..l...o....w on Blu-Ray. HD DVD loading speed is consistent. - My Blu-Ray player gives an anoying error about bitstream audio over HDMI on the TV every time I start a disc. What I like better about Blu-Ray: - My HD DVD players completely restart the movie if I switch TV inputs with a helpful message about the resolution switching, so press OK to restart. This really sucks. Anyone got a solution? What I hate about both: - Time from player off to eject is 32 seconds for Blu-Ray, 40 seconds for my HD DVD player. This IMHO is completely unacceptable. Just power on and open the drive already. How hard can it be? Boot your OS after the eject. Every DVD player I have is < 5 seconds, some < 3. Almost enough to make me buy a PS3. Almost. - Time from player off to starting movie is over a minute. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative | | | Last edited: by Ken Cole |

This really sucks. Anyone got a solution? That's a strange one Ken. I frequently pause a movie, then switch over to the input for my TiVo. I've never once had it restart my disc. If it matters, my HD DVD player is connected to my receiver through HDMI, and the receiver goes to the TV with HDMI. I've never tested the player straight to the TV through HDMI (nor have you indicated that's your setup). You might check over at AVS. You might find some help there. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

What I like about the PS3 Blu-Ray player: Frame advance, both forward and back w/Bluetooth remote. I'm going to make GOOD use of that after Transformers is released. Probably take me four hours to watch the movie. |

Why can't that be with a High def player? Why the ?#?%^& does an OS has to be loaded? I am watching a movie I am not going on to the internet of starting Word or playing a PC game. Comming to that, what ALL does a high def need load in comparison to a regular DVD player? It is almost not consumer electronics anymore. | | | Jean-Paul |

| Posted: | | | | With a PC CD/DVD drive, it has it's own internal OS and since it's stored in ROM, the OS startup is a couple of seconds. When you press it's eject button, you're dealing with the DVD drives OS and not the computer OS
It's probably the same way with commercial DVD players but if there's no eject interface directly with the DVD drive, it has to wait until it receives the eject instruction from the player's OS. |

Yes, that is my setup, HDMI straight to the TV. I have a good receiver (Onkyo DS989) and hate to replace it just to get HDMI. Only an issue with the HD-A20, the Blu-Ray ignores the TV input switch. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

I've never seen that issue. But it wouldn't hurt to upgrade the firmware. 2.5 just came out yesterday with 1080p/24 support. Even if your TV can't handle 24fps, there are other improvements that could help. You can download it to burn to CD here. Or you can wait for it to be available to download from the player. Other than that, I'd say to ask around over at AVS. See if you can find a thread over there for whatever set you own. For example, there's one for my TV that is about 600+ pages and 19,000 posts. If you can find one for your set, you'd probably have a little bigger audience than you're getting here with people very familiar with the ins and outs of your particular hardware. That might have a solution or work-around for you. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |
