I never said that the definition of 'Voice' was strictly spoken word.

I said for the purposes of DVDP, the use of the (voice) tag should be limited to dialog only, unless of course, a non-dialog (voice) credit is listed in the Cast section of the actual film credits.

Do you understand the difference?

Yes, and I didn't meant you said that. I just do not agree to use (voice) for dialog only.

I agree!!

There are many films where people provide only vocalizations for creatures or animals. Such as Congo, with those providing Gorilla sounds. Perhaps in other movies with Gorillas/Apes such as Gorillas in the Mist or Greystoke.

But getting back to Predator. I'm sure he provides all the clicks & chatter that Predator makes. But the Predator also screams in pain in at least one scene. Plus in the finale he actually speaks to Arnold right before he activates the self-destruct. Is it ever made clear who provides the voice for Predator in that scene, is it Kevin Peter Hall or was it Peter Cullen?

My understanding is that Kevin was just the man in the suit.

So wouldn't the person who provides the vocalization for the Predator be someone who helps bring the character to life on screen. The sounds the Predator makes is as much as the character as how he moves.

Here's an other interview with Peter Cullen with more detail how the predator voice was created.

I have to say, martin that so far I find hal's argument to be more convincing. An interview I don't consider to be relevant in ANY case. My only concern is that can a convincing case be built one way or the other, based strictly on the data.

wouldn't the interview with the person concerned be the best sort of data?

We don't use very much third party sources, and we aren't talking about an interview on the disc. That would be OK. The idea is take as much DIRECT data as possible and minimize data that comes from somewhere or something else.

The film makers placed this credit in the crew section.  They could have placed it in the cast section if they thought it belonged there.

Why do we want to second guess them?

Can't follow you Hal? Here you say no for this reason:

and in this thread you say yes (and with the same condition)
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Why do we add additional voices to our cast lists which aren't credited in the cast sections of the credits?

In the first instance, the person does not appear on screen.  In the second, they do appear on screen.

Quite simple actually.

I do not want to second guess the film makers. I just think we should be able to add well known voice actor Peter Cullen to our cast lists. And although it would best to add him as Creature Vocals (uncredited) (voice), it will not be correct because he's not uncredited. So that leaves us with the way he's credited and that's Vocalizations (voice).

Yeah, I think (uncredited) (voice) captures this accurately, since he's not credited amongst the cast.

The fact that he's not credited amongst the cast doesn't make him uncredited. Additional voices also are often not credited amongst the cast and yet we add them without the uncredited suffix to our cast lists too.

PS. We recently had a similar discussion about ADR Groups and people jumped on me because I wanted to add them as uncredited cast.

I have been thinking about this and, if he is entered, it should NOT be (uncredited).  Unlike the ADR groups, which is a crew credit, this is a true 'voice only' credit.

I can see both sides of this discussion.  I do not know why he was credited with the crew, but we do have a procedure for dealing with cast this.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

You can add data of any kind, anywhere you wish and it whatever format makes you happy, Martin, LOCALLY.
