I was wondering do we credit people who compose/write TV Show theme songs, whether or not it's sung or just instrumental for a TV Show DVD profile?

Only if it's an original song, i.e. was written for the show.

What about the main theme song that plays over the beginning credits?

If it is credited then we add it.

Is that correct?

I thought like Squirrel says was correct - that we only credit them if the music is written specifically for the show/movie.

Like CSI - would you credit The Who for the opening music although it's not written specifically for the show?

You would use the same cast and credit rules for TV shows as you would movies or any else that is released on DVD.

"Original Songs, written specifically for the film"

A theme is still a song, placement in the opening and/or opening credits makes no difference when profiling.

My point is that there are several songs credited that are not written specifically for the movie/show (like "Who are you" by The Who in CSI) and I feel you sort of contradict yourself when saying

"If it's credited then we add it"

and at the same time refer to the rules stating "Original Songs, written specifically for the film".

I think the question posted by Cubby is wether to submit theme songs adapted by TV-shows but not written specifically for the show or not (I might have misunderstood, but, hey - that's what Forums are for, right...  )

Correct if it wasn't written specifically for the TV show then it shouldn't be contributed.  Like the theme song from Charmed or like the example you gave for the show CSI.

it needs to be BOTH original (as the rules state) AND credited (we do not profile uncredited crew according to the rules, only uncredited cast).

I only add them to the first episode; after that they are no longer original to the feature.

Yes -- sorry I didn't clarify, but of course we don't submit uncredited crew information.

Don't agree with this statement - if a piece is written specifically for a TV-Series, it should be submitted for each episode (as long as it is credited of course  )

I agree...and do the same.
In my opinion it is only original when it is first heard.

Totally agree with Berak and Tracer. The theme song is original for the enter series, not just the first episode. After all, it was created for the series, not for just one episode (...and it's most likely credited in every episode, not just the first)
