I really would like to see a way to enter two more details according commentary tracks.

a) subtitles
It would be very helpful to select in which language commentary subtitles are, like "Commentary (english)" or "Commentary (german)". Also it would be possible to enter not only one commentary subtitle when there are more than one commentary subtitles in different languages.

b) commentary itself
I also would like to see a little field where you can enter the persons which are talking in the commentary.  Like "Director Ridley Scott & Actor Russell Crowe". To keep the layout of DVD Profiler tidy, it would be enough, when it is displayed via "Mouse over" effect when pointing the mouse arrow at the "Commentary" audio track or something like this.

What do you think about this?

How about a checkbox for each track to indicate whether it is a commentary? That way the language of the commentary can be selected in the language dropdown, and the checkbox would indicate whether it's a commentary track. The same technique could be used for described video.

I voted for both but am, in fact, more interested in b.

I think, though, that the 'title' of the person (actor, director, etc.) is not needed. On the other hand, it would be immensely cool if the database could be used to pick these names and they would even show up in the cross linking.

I prefer both. This would be an expedient enhancement for the profiler!

I don't think option a really applies all that much to R1 users.  We almost never see subtitled commentaries.

But I do like option b a lot.

Agree. There are directors such as Martin Scorcese and Peter Bogdanovich who do commentaries on films made by others. It would be great to be able to see that in linking.

I also like both ideas.

It's interested for R2 to see weither a commentary track is subtitled or not.

Buy more non-English language films.

OK it is not common, but I have a few. Off the top of my head; Polish and Spanish commentaries with English subtitles. With the current version there is no way to know, unless you add your own tags.

I'm slowly growing tired of this R1-centric mentality.  When deciding which DVD cataloging software to select out of the major options, what won it for me/DVDP was the volume of non-R1 stuff in the database.  Certainly the other major competitor I looked at was almost entirely aimed at R1, with links off to buy from sponsor sites.

When trying to decide, I looked for some unusual stuff, and lo-and-behold, DVDP actually had some of it!  I think sometimes it's the widely-available (but perceived as 'uncommon') stuff that strengthens DVDP, and will help build the userbase.

...and Mark, please don't consider this a personal attack, because it isn't intended as one.  It's just pointing out my viewpoint on an opinion that you and others happen to voice.  I empathise with your viewpoint.

Not a problem.  I wasn't trying to suggest that option a wasn't a good idea.  I was just pointing out that many of the R1 users might not see value there since we don't see that option a lot on our discs.  But it seems to have been a pointless observation anyway since it seems most people are voting for both.
