I'm sorry but do you really think this is going to happen? This would mean that in fact every improved headshot I collected since the last time I send them in would be gone?!

If you've been updating headshots since the last update, go ahead and leave them.  I've already accepted that version 4 will be a duplicate of the process creating version 3 because of how long it's been since version 2.  So no worries.

Quote:
All the "clean up your database" talk is pretty useless too imho. Why? Because you said you deleted duplicates and so on. You're ignoring the fact though that not everything you think is a duplicate is a duplicate for someone else. You probably have "Chow Yun Fat" in your database but someone else might have gone with "Yun-Fat Chow" (xradman's approach). Now, you'll get that one send in too. Plus all the local duplicates you painfully deleted but not the guy sending in an update.

I didn't delete those type of dupes.  I deleted items such as "FirstMiddle//Last" when there was an identical "First/Middle/Last" with it.

But you're right.  If anybody imported any of the other headshot databases, XYZ that I removed but still persists in their database will slip right back in.  Not worth the effort of hunting for and removing those.  I'll just have to accept the fact that maintaining a master database is going to be a PITA.

This is great! One question, however:

Quote:
[b]BY's that exist in Invelos DB were left alone.

You wouldn't be able to supply a list of exactly which birth years are included in this latest version of the headshot-database, now would you? That they "exist in the Invelos DB" isn't really enough for me: not exactly knowing what happens to my cast and crew entries when importing the database will mean that I'll have to go through all cast and crew entries yet again to see whether I need to set something straight. If there are a few birth years in the database that are new to my collection, chances are that I'll have to straighten things out locally: if I have ONE BY-less entry for an actor, and your headshot database contains two separate entries with birth years, it cannot guess which entries to update with which variant: I'll have to do that manually. I'm not doubting the fact that all birth years included in this database are correct, I'd just like to know which ones are included. I'd be over the moon if you could supply a list: it would save me hours of checking all entries.

You can rest assured that the BY's in the database are legit.  To verify, I took a profile with no cast/crew and added everyone with a BY.  I then submitted the profile and took note of every person listed at the bottom of the page - where updates with BY's are listed where there is no BY in the Invelos database.  I canceled my submission and removed the BY's from the headshot database that were listed by Invelos.  I then repeated the process to make sure I didn't miss any.

But creating a list of valid BY's in the database won't be an issue.  I'll make a post with valid and invalid BY.

and I can't contribute

I can't contribute either.

I wonder if there'd be a demand for a thread outside of this master database where people who can't contribute to the master can share our individual databases? Personally all I care about at this point is to populate the headshot list. Birthyears, nudes, I'd be happy to take 'em all.

Naturally we'd need to mention the reason for not being able to contribute it to the master Db, so people can avoid ours if they want.

Do like other's have and post them here.  Just let people know if you have nudes in there or not.

I'm not concerned with birth years any longer since I'll need to validate them all anyways.

I even toyed with the idea of having a nude-only database.

How not concerned are you?

I'm asking because I'm in the process of adding birth years to all actors in my local. I know that obviously means I can't contribute cast changes, but I also don't want to risk contaminating other people's Db's by submitting my actor headshot Db here. Unless you tell me it's cool and that you'll cleanse it before proceeding.

I know this is controversial, which is why I'm asking before just going ahead.

ALL actors?  Whoa.

I don't think I'm ready to take on that kinda load yet.  For every cast & crew member that has an invalid BY, I have to manually remove it.

But if the BY stripper being asked for in the Feature request forum happens, by all means, go for it!

ok, got that

I'll count how many headshots are (imho) better in my current version and base my decision to send anything in or not on those results If it's a low number I might even send in just the pics instead of the database...

It's a long process, and I'm not sure I'll ever complete it, but I've started.

I'll keep my Db to myself for now then.

There's only one way you'll ever be able to complete it and that is if you stop buying DVDs.

HA!

Well, that's note likely to happen any time soon.

I'm working my way down the list of my most common actors. Relistically, once I hit those with only 1 occurence I may have to call it quits.

Sounds good.

If you get up to 50, stop and just send me the DB.

Will you let us know, before you start working on v4?

I don't know, if I can resolve the BY issue, and I know I didn't allow the nudes to be replaced by the logo you provided, but I improve and collect headshots everytime I get accross any which are missing or of poor quality...

Maybe you could find some good ones in my DB...

I just imported v3. The overall number of improved pictures is impressive, thanks a lot!

But I have a few general notes on improving the quality. Please note that I love your collection, this is just meant as constructive feedback

1) I know it's called "Headshots" but imho you're "zooming" in too much. For the ladies with the nice hairstyle it's a real shame cutting them off. I kept quite a lot of existing photos because the new one was just a part cut out of them which was too narrow for my taste. It also often means the pics look good only if you don't stretch them and if you do you start to see every pimple and crinkle.

2) For actors that had their "high" long ago you should really go for the pic from that time even if it's off slightly lower quality than a current one.

3) imho a good b/w picture should be preferred to a lower quality color photo

4) ok, I'm sure you're already doing this but no harm in mentioning again:
- no cigarettes on pic
- no missing background
- no text on the photo
- happy > sad

Oh, and there were more than 50, so I'm going to send my file in. Going to collect a few more before though. Any deadline?

1. I only added a few to this set - and the ones I added were for people born nearly a hundred years ago so they stick (because there's like, maybe one available?)    But I agree, a headshot should be of the entire head and part of the shoulders (ie: a bust).  I look forward to seeing the ones you kept.

2. I came up with the same idea as I occupied my brain to keep it from going numb as I was scanning the headshots for nudes.  This is recommended.  The only problem I can think of is that I may not know that their hayday was x years ago.

3. Agreed.

4. Pretty much agreed but why no background?

No deadline.
