And some like Hal, will just never get it. Why? Because he is not interested in discussion and trying to understand an opposing position, in fact he is willing to take steps to avoid discussion.

But that clearly does not stop him from making demeaning comments.

Here is a simple programatic resolution to the problem at hand.

If we accept that they are credits, Ken can provide a checkbox in the crew credits area for 'possessory credit'. If the checkbox is ticked the user is able to enter data in a field that is entitled 'details'. Example:

It's a Wonderful Life

Director credit:

Frank Capra

Role:

Director

Possessory Credit Checkbox:

Checked

Possessory Credit Detail:

Frank Capra's

Result:

The posessory credit is displayed above the title as it should be. It would look like this in profiler:

Frank Capra's
It's a Wonderful Life

People will still argue about whether it is part of the title or not.
That was what I meant in my first posts in this thread. Glad someone else sees the problem...

But that's what the new field would be for - it seems to be that those fighting to stick every single possessory credit in the title field are doing so because there's nowhere else to put it!

If a possessive is a credit and not part of the title, it should be listed in the credits section (most likely in the crew part). It could qualify as an original material credit, a director credit, or maybe even a writer or producer credit. It all depend on the individual case. And sometimes a possessive is really part of the title.

It may be too late now, but I'd really like to know from some of the no voters where they think this information should be stored if not in it's own field?
Would you put it in the title field (the other poll suggests not)?
Would you class it as a credit (which the current rules don't allow)?
Would you lose this information completely (which seems a shame)?

It all depends on the individual case, use your common sense, do some research, have a look at all the hints in the credits and on the cover, and as a last resort ask here in the forum. But in most of the cases it is really simple to decide where the possessive should go.

Now RHo, how long have you been reading this forum? "Common sense"? I think you know this forum better than that!

That's why I have given more than one fall back strategy, if common sense does not work.
