Does this program work with the AT&T Tilt?

I have a sneaky suspicion that it won't work.  Both the phone and the scanner are designed to plug into a USB hub.  I know that the Tilt won't function as a hub, no idea about the scanner but if it doesn't have a female USB plug, chances are it won't.

Well, the phone has a receptacle just as a PC or hub has one (or more), while the scanner has a connector that plugs into a receptacle, being a PC or hub or phone.  I was thinking that if there was a power issue for the scanner, which a receptacle normally provides, then using a Y-connector that plugs into the phone, accepting the scanner and a charger might do the trick.  Maybe this weekend...

Update:  I added one DVD to DVD Profiler and had it sync with the mobile version (while I just recently purchased the mobile Profiler, I've had the paid desktop version for sometime, but never added my collection to it, due to house logistics).  Looks cool.  Question, I don't see where on the mobile's menu I can add new DVDs, unless this is done via the lookup section?

Hi 8ballMax -- your suggestion doesn't include barcode scanner input, unless I missed something.  I do see a way to possibly add via UPC lookup.  You enter the UPC code, lookup, it's not found, you're prompted to add the item, confirm the UPC, enter the Title's name, then I gave up.  This is not acceptable for what I had in mind when entering 1700+ DVDs.

I was expecting/hoping that I could go into the room, which stores my DVDs (1700+), with my Tilt and scanner.  Go to an input screen that allows me to add DVDs by UPCs.

I imagined swiping one DVD, have that UPC code listed on my Tilt's screen, go to the next DVD have that UPC listed, etc. -- all done without having to stop my routine in order to confirm the UPC, enter title, etc.  I'd rather not slow the process down, and only worry about confirmations, etc. once back at the desktop.  When finished (or when I reached some predefined DVDP limit), connect the phone to the desktop, sync the new UPCs from the phone to the desktop, and then have the desktop do the legwork of retrieving all the relevant info based upon UPC codes only.

If mobile DVDP's redefined limit was in play, I'd return to the room and get more UPCs;  if there wasn't such a limit, I'd sync all the retrieved data done by the desktop to the phone and I'd be done.

Lug your PC into the living room or the DVD's into the computer room and scan away directly into DVDP.

MarkAtHome,

I have a bluetooth scanner that I connect to my phone, and am able to scan the upc's right into the program similar to what you are saying.

However, first when you sync between phone\pda and computer on the screen for what to select to send to the mobile device there is a section for recent and upcoming releases. You will want to select All here so that all the online titles (for the localities you check) are sent to your phone. The profiles are only basic profiles.

Next when you search upcoming (by upc or title) it will return those online profiles in the list of results and then you can select to add it to your owned, ordered, or wishlist. It will then prompt for personalization. And then when you synch up with your PC it will download the full profiles.

couple things about this process. I found that you still have to hit the search button after scanning the upc because the enter key press that the scanner sends doesn't seem to trigger the search. Also, when you add titles this way it won't fill in the sort table.

Nice!  I originally planned on getting a bluetooth scanner, but the ones I looked at (Wasp) were more than I wanted to spend.

I hate to say this, but it might be easiest to do the swiping as I described above, but have the scanner input into a note or text message, instead of DVDP...  then I'd copy this note/text file to the PC and use the utility UPCS.EXE floating around that one of our members wrote to input into DVDP.

I suppose I need to try and just do it until it either works for me or not.  Too much thinking and talking about it is giving me an excuse for not trying it.  Did having to press the enter key slow you down when you were inputting?

Well I use the microvision Flic now seems to be calle the ROV. In addition to the Bluetooth, it can also be used through a serial or usb cable (I have a serial cable, but am considering buying a usb cable for it). It does require a scanner wedge software but its a free download.

Anyway, I just double checked and the scan does seem to be triggering the search though i remember that it didn't work like that when i first tried, though i may of had something configured wrong.

after scanning it, you get a list of matches (for upc it should generally only be one result unless you have multiple localities) you then have to click the add 'button' to add it to your collection and are then prompted on where to add it (owned, order, wishlist) and to personalize it. Unless I'm missing something you can't set it like in the main program to not prompt for personalization and just add them one after another by just scanning each upc.

If you are adding only a few titles this isn't bad, but it's kind of a pain to add a whole collection. I generally do the bulk of my adding on my laptop which is my primary computer for DVD Profiler (and my bluetooth scanner can also pair to it as well)

Since your talking about adding a whole collection, it may be easier to use the UPC import method (at least to get the initial collection in) then just add new ones to mobile as you get them. The sort title bug is kind of a pain, and would be a royal pain to have to fix sort titles for your whole collection, where its not to bad to only do a title at a time.

The additional nice thing about the scanner I use is it can store the barcodes and then 'dump' them when you re-establish connection (either physical or bluetooth, I think its like 1500 barcodes it holds) So I could basically scan from one room, then walk into the other room, connect to my computer and download them right into the add screen (need personalization off because its one right after the other)  I don't really do that because I got the scanner after entering most of my titles (just new ones) and add them as I get them. And since I use a laptop I can be in range the whole time (Sometimes you get two results for one upc and it requires input before the next scan)

Hope that helps.

I originally bought a wedge type scanner from Wasp way back when, when I first purchased DVDP, but was just too clunky to work with.  Having to put it between the keyboard and mouse, and then the concern about having the collection in another room (it was a lot smaller then, though... ) had me put everything on the back burner, until now.

Excellent!  That's great news.

That's why I might initially be better off just getting the scan codes over to the PC, and go from there.

That was a tempting feature for me, as well, but since I was looking at this as almost a one-time use, it was hard to justify the extra cost for me.

Most definitely.  Thank you.
