This is not the title on the front cover, so I submitted a change (Blu-ray version) to replace the existing title with 'XIII: The Last Stand'.

As you might expect, voting was split: 4 yes and 5 no.

The change was declined.

Fascinating!

Why are you disappointed? If you drop a sigarette in a forrest, you should not be surprised if it burns down to the ground.

Or do you just like to test if the rules are rules and not guidelines?

Makes perfect sense to me. If you have this dvd then you will search for it by UPC or the title on the cover. If you don't have it then nothing is stopping you from searching for it by the name that appears on the cover as well. You can also find UPC codes on the net quite easily so that option is open to you as well. The last thing I need is to look for films in the database based on the title in the credits especially when it comes to foreign/non-English films. If I don't have the dvd it's much harder for me to know what title appears in the credits rather than getting the UPC code or the title on the cover. And if I do have it then again it's simpler to enter the UPC code or title on the case rather than pop the disc in the player and search for the film title.

I did not say I was disappointed...I said I was fascinated (and confused).

Apparently adding that space between "X" and "III" was what made the difference.

And yes, the whole idea was to test the Rules and raise the awareness that the "new" Rule which has us taking the title only from the front cover of the DVD might not be the best approach.

I think there needs to be a discussion over in the Contribution Rules Committee forum about symbols on the DVD covers and how we should interpret them.  I'm going to brainstorm this today and make a post this evening.

Well,Hal, as I recall you were one of the proponents for the cover. My attitude remains what it has always been. All I can say is the proponents of the cover got what they wanted....

As usual, you recall wrong.  I was the strongest proponent for using the film credits when it was first put into the Rules.

At the time I was using the Roolku skin which had an Awards feature that required the "correct" title.

You recall incorrectly.  Hal was against this idea from the beginning...I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong.

EDIT: I see Hal has already chimed in on this.  That'll teach me to get distracted in the middle of a post.

No rule is perfect.  Even the original rules you helped write had unforseen issues.  All that is needed here is a small clarification to the rule.  It is not a big deal.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I was always for the title from the cover....and still am even with these type of situations coming up. I can see adjusting the rule slightly to allow for such logos and such... but still believe we should stick with the cover for the title.

I agree with title should come from cover. Slightly change to the rules coping with graphical representation until we have another situation that require our attention.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Besides this title, Batman, and "pi", what other titles have only symbols or graphical representations on them that have had an unfortunate side-effect on the title entered in DVDP?

The reason that I cintributed was that someone said "Someone else can give it a shot".

I own the title, so, I gave it a shot. I was amazed that no one voted no. I assume that all the no votes for Hal's attempt were for the space issues.

Me personally, I would like to see the title taken from the case spine, then the credits if needed. Covers usually have logos and what not that rarely fit on a spine.

Why should you contribute a title change if you do not want it that way?

Just to show everybody there's a hole in the rules?

A change that can not be fixed, because it will be againts the rules...

I wanted to see if the no votes were for what I thought. I was right.
