I just did a Cast contribution for Definately, Maybe and noticed an obvious error in the end credits.

I have posted an image of the error (which is a switch of the actor's name and the role played).  This one is more obvious because the role played was "himself"

I am not sure if I really have a question for this as the rules seem pretty clear that you contribute the item the way it lists in the end credits.  My thought process on this seemed to be a little simpler as Himself was already a cast member's name in DVDProfiler.  Just looking for thoughts.

It is just things like Credit Lookup tool do not work or reflect this profile, but on the otherhand, Himself seems to be doing pretty good in Hollywood, 53 titles and 67 profiles...

Himself did not play Robert Klein in the film. Robert Klein appeared in this film as himself. The credit in Profiler is Robert//Klein as Himself.

Your first mistake is in calling it an obvious error. You don't know that, you are assuming it's an error. It is in actuality avery common style used in film...why?...I have no earthly idea, I am not a filmmaker. But don't make assumptions.

True enough, I do not know that it was obviously an error.. it may have been no different than an Easter Egg, but as you said, I can think of no reason why it was done that way (at least intentionally).

They've probably done it that way simply because it reads better than:
"himself        robert klein"

Seen a lot of movies where the credits is stared with "played by" and if you put "played by" between role and cast it makes sens... So in my eyes no error or easter egg..

I recently did a title called "The Grand" that had several people like this.  How I handled it was:

Robert Klein [Himself] : Robert Klein

That way the listing is still correct and the crediting is correct.

A while ago i did something similar and stirred up quiet a controversy (see here)
In the end the contribution was accepted but not everyone seemed happy.

I don't understand how that works . Is there now an actor in the database named Robert Klein [Himself]?

I think Synner is using the brackets to show he has used "credited as".
So it would be Robert Klein (credited as "himself") playing "Robert Klein".
To be honest I would have simply gone with Robert Klein playing "himself", but see nothing wrong with Synner's credit.

Synner's handling with Credited As would be in complete compliance with the Rules. In fact , the introduction of the Alias system solved the handling of this Hollywood peculiarity from our POV.

Just out of curiosity, does anybody actually keep it as "Robert Klein [Himself] : Robert Klein" locally?  Not advocating any changes, just wondering if anybody likes it so much that they would keep it that way locally if the rules were different.  Personally, I change them all to "Robert Klein : Himself" locally.  It just seems less of a hack that way to me.
