Cannot contribute from behind proxy/firewall

My settings are

[x]use proxy server (with server and port)
[x] use authentication (with domain, user and password)
socks version: none

When I add a new DVD the list will be updated before adding and the adding works, too.

When I upload my collection to Invelos, that works fine, too.

But when I try to contribute, after I've decided whether I want to include images, then I get an access violation.

"Alternate connection" behaves identically.

Hello DJ Doena,

I have the same problem. I seem to remember it used to work before. Nothing has changed to my PC, and I doubt this is caused by the invelos website. I think this is caused by a change in the company firewall

That's what I thought but now I'm starting to wonder... unless all our companies have the same firewall and did the same update it may be something at the Invelos end because I also used to have no problem until a few weeks ago, since when it has become an Access Violation when I try to contribute.

But the point is that the connection test passes. I can download new profiles, profile upates etc and I can upload changes to my DVD Profileer online. The think the only thing I (and it seems others) can't do, as of a month or two ago, is contribute.

... and even if this was a fix these are, as was mentioned, works firewalls under discussion; we don't get to change the settings on those!

I've had the same problem since years ago.  I DO think it's a corporate firewall setting and not an Invelos (or Intervocative, for that matter).

I have no upload or download problems at all at work except for the inability to contribute.  Doesn't matter what I'm contributing (images or always).  If I want to contribute, I can only do so on the home computer. 

The behavior almost seems as though the connection method DVDP uses for contribution data is different in some way from any other data uploading.

For me, it happened always. I haven't tried it in a while. I'm pretty sure it's caused by tighter security in our corporate firewall.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing in the old days all TCP high ports (above 1024) were open, and I believe now only the required ports are open.

DVD Profiler uses only port 80.

It looks like the file upload component is set to not handle redirects, which may be causing an issue behind some firewalls.  I've changed that setting for 3.6, so we'll see if that fixes it.  If not, once we get into the 3.6 beta cycles, I'll take a closer look at it.

It has never worked from behind any of the corporate firewalls that I have encountered. Firewalls include Checkpoint Firewall-1 and Juniper Netscreen. They are the two market leading products and most large corporates will use at least one of these.

Hi Ken,

I just reinstalled DVDPro on my work PC. I have the following configuration:

Windows 7 - Windows firewall configured to allow DVDPro.exe

Company network is a windows domain, mandatory Proxy server for all internet traffic, requiring Active Directory authentication and a firewall
* Proxy: 2 Bluecoats in loadbalancing
* Firewall: Checkpoint R60

Test 1: Proxy + Authentication
  * Connection to DVD Profiler Online: error upon login: Access violation at address 007C6DE8 in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Read of address 0000001C.
  * Contribute DVD: Access violation at address 007C6DE8 in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Read of address 0000001C.
    Contribution submission failed. Please try again later.

Test 2: Proxy + Authentication + Alternate internet connection method
  * Connection to DVD Profiler Online: successful
  * Contribute DVD: Access violation at address 007C6DE8 in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Read of address 0000001C.
    Contribution submission failed. Please try again later.

Not sure if it's caused by the proxy (I don't actually think so), or the firewall.

If required, I can probably hook my pc in a lab environment and eliminate the Bluecoat Proxy. If you need this test, just let me know.
