BulkEdit V2.37 Available

- First official support for DVDP 3.8.1 and beyond. Does Not support any prior DVDP release
- New DVDP fields supported: Color, Dimensions, CoO2, CoO3, Gift Received, Gift From, Contributable
- Legacy DVDP fields support enhanced: Edition, Retailer
- Faster loading of Custom Categories, due to new Developer features
- Improved GUI - progress bars and ability to stop operations
- Fixed bug in handling of Wish List
- Identifying icons added to all BulkEdit menus
- Optional Regex added to column copy
- Edition supported for column copy
- Column Copy now supports: Color, Contributable, CountryOfOrigin, CountryOfOrigin2, CountryOfOrigin3, Dimension
- Added Menu Item: Collection>Flags>Flag Gifts
- XML Import enhanced to support 3.8.1 format

How to edit Dimensions:

This field is supported by a dropdown box that contains the eight (8) possible values of this 3-attribute field, using all combinations of 2D, 3DBluRay and Anaglyph being on or off.

Hence, for example:
- blank = no dimensions checkboxes flagged
- 2D+3DBluRay+Anaglyph = all dimension checkboxes flagged
- 2D+3DBluRay = two corresponding checkboxes flagged
- etc.

How to edit Color:

This field is supported by a dropdown box that contains all sixteen (16) possible values of this 4-attribute field, using all combinations of C (color), B (black and white) , Z (colorized) , and X (mixed) being on or off.

Hence, for example:
- blank = no color checkboxes flagged
- C+B+Z+X = all color checkboxes flagged
- C+Z = color and colorized checkboxes flagged
- B+X = black and white, and mixed checkboxes checked
- etc.

CSV Import

This function remains unchanged until Mark Harrison's CSV Export plugin is updated for 3.8.1. At that point, I will make changes to BulkEdit to maintain compatibility with CSV Export.

Limitations

With this number of changes in support of a new release of DVDP, there are bound to be some rough edges. I will do my best tp keep up with bug fixes.
Thanks for your support.

Mediadogg,

I am trying to edit/change all my profiles because of the need of LoadDVD to use the location field (where i store the location of the dvds).

I decided that I would create 5 tags of the various locations for my discs.  But to update all the profiles manually would be a very tiresome task .. and my short attention span does not do well with tiresome <G>

i do not see a way to modify/select a tag using BulkEdit.  Is this true or am i missing something really simple?

If it is true do you have a good suggestion on how to 'flag' the profiles in dvdProfiler then get the Tags set to the appropriate one.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Thank you
David

fairly easy:
1) MAKE A BACKUP OF YOU DATABASE (sorry for shouting, but in another forum recently a user failed to do so and shot himself in the foot)
2) In the Collectionlist right-click on the column-heads, choose "View Columns -> Disc Location" and click once on this new column to sort by it.
3) Flag the first and the last of the profiles of your 'Location 1', "Collection -> Flags -> Flag between" (BulkEdit has to be active) and all the profiles will be flagged.
4) "Collection -> Flagged -> Tags" and assign the appropriate tag.

repeat 3 & 4 for all different Locations.

Thanks mithi. But dtsig I already told you that location can be shared. No need to go thru adding tags unless you prefer to do that. Just put "file" followed by a space in front of whatever is there. You can use regex replace of Bulkedit to do this in a matter of seconds. But the choice is yours.

I was hoping BulkEdit would be the tool I was looking for, but after playing around with it and reading up on it I don't think it is...

My Purchase information is a mess... I used Profiler for a while then moved my collection to DVD Spot until that went down during which time I added things to Profiler but wasn't diligent so there are many gaps.  I also kept information in Excel.  Long story short I've worked through it and now have a spreadsheet of the information I want in DVDP.  I have just around 3000 profiles and the only fields I'm interested in updating are the Purchase Place, Purchase Date and Purchase Price.

Is there an easy way to do this with Bulk Edit? (or some other way?) or am I going to have to do it manually?

Most important: does this spreadsheet have the UPCs? If yes, the whole thing should be fairly easy manageable via the csv-import of BulkEdit.
Just save the spreadsheet as csv, and in BulkEdit: "Load" => "CSV and validate" => set "Source" to "custom" and choose the appropriate fields.

Well, Mithi beat me to it!!!!

I was also going to ask:

- Does your spreadheet include UPC/EAN?
- Does your speadsheet include Locality? If not, is it possible to easily add the column (or alternatively, to segment into separate sheets by locality)?
- Does the speadsheet include the official Rating as applied by the apprpriate authority in the Locality?
- Are there other personal data fields?

Once you answer these, I can augment Mithi's instructions with a set of specific steps to best utilize BulkEdit.

BTW, an alternative to using the "Custom" option and mapping the fields, you can also create a template with CSV Export. That is the format that is supported by default in BulkEdit. Just select exactly the fields that are needed for Import to BulkEdit, then Export one profile. Then you will have an official header that BulkEdit recognizes automatically.

So, answer the questions, and then I will update my recommendations with explicit steps.

Thanks for the answers!  I think part of my problem was assuming I had to update all my profiles... instead of just the ones I need to update.  I'll get my ducks in a row and check back.

BulkEdit V2.38 Available

- Recompiled under Windows 8. No functional changes.

On my system, BulkEdit V2.37 causes DVD Profiler to crash on Windows 8.

So far, version 2.38, compiled on Windows 8, has run properly on both my Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems.

Please report if you have any issues on either operating system.

I get a lot of error messages:

Quote:
English error text:

Could not load file or assembly 'System, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies.  The system cannot find the file specified

As you can see, I get the first error right before DVDP will draw its window (the eye is completely colored).
I can click it away and DVDP will continue normally - but the error shows up every time I switch to another profile.

I'm running v2.38 on Windows 8 pro x64.

Edit:
I was just looking into options and trying to close that window I could fetch some details:

Hmmm, never got this report before. From the info provided, it seems the plugin is not installed correctly. I would try simply re-installing. It will automatically purge the old version. I do not know what happens if you use other than the default installation folders, so if you are changing them, that could be the issue.

Another point. This kind of problem does not show up spontaneously. So something must have changed. If you are trying to disable or un-install the plugin, you must use the Tools/Plugins menu to disable, or run the unins000.exe found in the \plugins\BulkEdit folder to uninstall (DVDP cannot be running).  Only then can you delete the \BulkEdit folder. If things are still out of sorts, just re-install the plugin, then use the above methods to remove it.
Thanks for your support.

OK, I should have given you a little more information:
This is a first-time installation of your plugin on my new Windows 8 machine. The first time starting DVD Profiler after the installing your plugin got me those messages. It's an Intel Core i5, 16GB.

I tried it a couple of times on Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and got these errors too. That was an Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB.

I get the same error whenever I try to use Database Query, but that plugin won't throw a message on DVDP-startup.

Is there a way to check, if installation has been successful? Maybe a list of files a can check?

I got 'BulkEdit.dll', 'BulkEdit.tlb', 'EditDiscs.exe', 'localities.dod', 'unins000.dat' and 'unins000.exe' in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\DVD Profiler\Plugins\BulkEdit'.

I also used the DVDP to Access plugin, which is also fantastic.  Easy to setup queries to find issues, found that I have 350 or so SRP denominations that are wrong that I'd like to update as well.

@DoubleDownAgain,

Thanks for the details. I see now that basically, you want to update a bunch of profiles that are already in the database. And, in fact, you have already made the updates in a spreadsheet, outside of BulkEdit. This is a scenario that I have not yet put into BulkEdit, but it makes a lot of sense: copy/paste by column from Excel to BulkEdit would be neat - but it is not there.

Here is what I do support, in case you can modify your plans to fit:

(1) BulkEdit will import from CSV (CSVExport format is the default), allowing you to create new profiles with personal data such as Purchase date, Notes, Location, Slot, etc. I know that BulkEdit will warn you when an imported profile already exists in the database. What I don't remember, is whether you can override the database profile data with imported data. Maybe you can try one. All you need is the Profile ID column, plus columns for any fields you wish to change. If my memory serves, you see the imported data, along with a bunch of log entries warning you that the profile already exists. Now, you can try running the "Save Validated Profiles" menu, and see if your changed data is applied. I think it works, but I can't recall trying it!

The alternative is to go ahead and create new profiles in a temporary database, after which you need to refresh from Invelos (faster than importing all the fields from CSV), and then you can save/restore the updated profiles into your main database.

(2) BulkEdit will give a spreadsheet-like editing environment for most all fields, except Cast/Crew, which is covered by other plugins. Since you already made your changes, you would have to redo them in the BulkEdit spreadsheet. There are a bunch of editing tools (e.g. Multicopy), but you have to decide whether redoing the edits is worth your time.

I hope this hasn't been too confusing. It is sort of a busy time for me - otherwise I would offer to add some sort of differential update from Excel, but I don't have the time right now. I hope one of the other scenarios works out for you. Once you get the hang of BulkEdit, it can save a lot of time, if it has the feature that you need.

In case you didn't notice, the BulkEdit CSV import format is exactly what is produced by CSV Export. That is what I try to support. But you can also use any custom format and map your headings to DVDP field names, as part of the import process.
Thanks for your support.
