Ken, thank you for clarification!

Don't you think it would be a generous gesture to restore the stars of the referring users without any further investigations?

Please keep in mind that we are a very special club of dvd addicts who should hold together!

Thank you. I really, really, really do appreciate it when other users do their best to help improve the atmosphere and who also stand up against things that the community perceives as injustice.

However, to be honest, I'd gladly trade in my star and instead have Invelos treat every user the exact same way and give honest answer. Be strict, but fair to all. That's why I posted again here and that's what would really make me happy.

But again, thanks for your posts. The warm sentiment is heartfelt.

So two anti-racist posts I made, each with many green arrows, and only one red arrow each lost me my star? So certain people's red arrows count more than many other peoples' green arrows?

This is disturbing.

Unless of course that whoever reviews the post and the arrows and gives and removes stars gets a personal say in how much influence each has. Which means the person who removed my star liked the rcism, and disliked my commenting on it.

This is also disturbing.

It seems that this forum condones overt racism, and condemns those who object to it.

Or is there an explanation I am missing?

I'd like to add you have my full support! Even if I'd risk a lifetime ban, I'd still support you gladly. Racism is a big no-no. I'm Belgian and my wife is Japanese. As such, I take racists remarks, to any race or nationality, very much to heart, since she on rare occasions had to endure them in real life as well and I know how painful those can be. I have 0 respect for the people at Invelos that condone such behavior!

Like bad behavior being accepted on these forums, this is something that I had accepted thus far, but I don't think I care to any longer.

I hear ya, Hal. I'm struggling with this same issue. I love DVD Profiler. I enjoy contributing and voting and participating with the many who've become friends over the years. I've accepted the adverse accompaniments thus far...but I've become conflicted as to whether the toll taken is endurable.

If Ken was fair, then we would have, about 6 users and you would not be one of them. You have no ideas and in my book Ken has been far too lenient with a subset of users. Even to the point of restoring an avatar which was nothing more than harassment of another user. Bottom line; reputation system or not,all Rules have gonne out the window, as he tries to appease that subset. I have said before that i will not call for a banning of any user and quite personally, in my opinion those who have posted such comments have NO credibility, they would not were I Ken, just some friendly advice to all. Keep in mind people, ken is not answerable to any of us, some of you seem to believe that he is.

What is amusing is the people who have used avatars in a harassing manner, some of the most vopcal about controlling and/or banning a certain user, but believe they are allowed to say or do anything they wish, while trying to control the speech of others, so in that regard the Soviet flag background is quite an appropriate use for THOSE users, it does not speak well of them but it does graphically display their desire to insult others and control speech. The on e that surprised me was, james, I had no idea he had such leanings.. and no that's not an attack. James made the attack.

Oh thank you, but why don't you give the greens to the users who deserve the green arrows? That would really help to increase their reputation status!

And this is for all users who ask themselves how I got 4 stars:

* Some single greens for postings and 5 greens for one single posting
** won by the easter egg hunt 2008
*** Lolcats (I suppose)
**** more Lolcats (maybe)

Thats my mystery of getting 4 stars.

HTH!

I did not change my avatar to control speech. I changed it to mock ridiculousness in return. You are correct that all rules have gone out the window. When stated rules are openly mocked and defied, I will use mockery to shine the light back on the hypocrisy of it all. Why act within the rules when the lines of acceptable behavior are redrawn to accommodate others? If rules are restored in a fair and discernable way, I will show respect. Until then, it's a travesty of a mockery of a sham.

While I'm glad to have seen Ken weigh in on this situation, I still feel that he does not or can not see the forest for the trees.

I and others who feel the same why I do, are not asking for any one person (Skip) to be permanently banned. What we are asking for is very simple, a sliding scale of severity when it comes to moderated disciplinary action.

Moderated post = 1st warning = verbal warning and 30 day probationary period
2nd moderated post in probationary period = 24 hour ban and 60 day probationary period
3rd moderated post in probationary period = 72 hour ban and 90 probationary period
4th moderated post in probationary period = 7 day ban and 6 month probationary period
5th moderated post in probationary period = 30 day ban and 1 year probationary period and final warning
6th moderated in probationary period results in permanent ban.

This isn't rocket science and it leaves it up to each individual user how far in the disciplinary process they venture.

I think we are all in agreement that if a person reaches level 6, then they brought it upon themselves.

That looks like a fair system to me. I would certainly like to know what Invelos' sliding scale is, what guidelines they work to.

I am assuming that anyone who has their post moderated because they quoted a moderated post wouldn't be affected by this?

Finally, we absolutely do consider the account history when handling moderation.  For instance, an free account user with 5 posts of which all 5 are spam will receive a permanent account ban without warning.

Thanks Ken, that's great to know.  Since I've been a paid member since 12/19/2001, does that mean that I too can get away with whatever I like?  What exactly is the cut-off point? Are there other factors at play here like post count, contribution history, some other method of bringing value to the site and / or product?

If you would simply remove the mystery surrounding tolerance of bad behavior, then perhaps we can all participate within our own personal guidelines and get along much better.  I'm fine with someone like James (for example) being allowed to be ruder than myself if I know up front that he's more special than I am.  But the way things are now it's really not surprising that some people are operating under the belief that we're all equals and should be treated that way.

Seriously, if you would just publish a list of special users who have more rights, then I would know who to walk on eggshells with and who I can treat as an equal.  It's the uncertainty that drives me nuts.  I never know who I can pick on and who I can't.  Or if I'm special enough to pick on anyone period.  Not that I desire to pick on anyone.  I just like to know my options.

Looking forward to the iPhone app and I hope you're not being drug away from it too much!
