| | Posted: | | | | I recently upgraded my audio system, but I am still using a Westinghouse TX for my display. While it has good points, (47", reasonably sharp), it has terrible black levels, significant red push and awful green push. I'm not fond of plasma, largely because of the weight, but also lifetime and power consumption. Projection may be practical (the room is 12'x15'), btu is expensive to operate. Has anybody seen the new LED TVs in action? I'm wondering if the black level changing really works, or if you end up with a haze on high-contract edges? Also, how is color accuracy? |

| | Posted: | | | | Before buying my current Panasonic plasma, I've taken a good look at the Philips 9803 LED model. Yes, the blacks on that one are really good, as well as colour accuracy. The only thing with it is that if you have white print on a totally black background, you'll have a slight halo effect surrounding the white print. You might notice it during the end credits of a movie, but certainly not during the movie itself. You can read some reviews hereherehereand here. I was rather impressed with it myself, but in the end I decided to go plasma because to me the image looks more "natural" (and less artificial/PC-like) on a good plasma than on any LCD. Of course, that's a personal preference. Lifetime nowadays is hardly an issue any longer with plasmas, weight and power consumption are still higher than with LCDs, you're right there. If you're considering LCDs, you definitely should take a look at some LED models. Samsung seems to make good ones as well, but the Philips is the one I looked very closely at myself. |

-Agrare I have this same television but it is DLP rear-projection and I think the OP is looking for information on the new LED LCDs!!! | | Posted: | | | | I went to buy one a couple of weeks ago and ended up getting Samsung's new plasma TV. You get a lot more picture for the price. In a side by sde comparison while watching a basketball game (go Magic BTW) there was still the pixelation (or whatever you call it) on the LED model when the players ran down the court. It is not noticeable at all on the plasma. The "full backlight" LED models were better than the side lit ones but those were just too far out of the price range for me. Here's the model I bought. If you haven't already bought you may want to look at them. 50" screen is the same price as the 40" side lit LED model. FWIW the plasma is "energy star" compliant but it does put off some heat. |
