Sad to see you go Berak and I hope you will return some day. The community, and especially the Norwegian community, needs contributors like you. Although we don't agree 100% on everything, our arguments have always been in a constructive and polite manner. (Except when football has been involved )

Also sorry to see you go. I hope you'll change your mind. As others have said, we need more contributors for "smaller" localities.

All the best

There goes another dedicated "member" of this society.

How many more have to leave to make it clear that something needs to change?

It has nothing to do with doom & gloom, it's just the way it is.

For me this forum used to be a pleasant place to visit, where you would read interesting topics, laugh about a lot of stuff and learn a bit on the side. That time is long gone since all the "changes" this site has gone through.

DVD Profiler isn't only made by it's creator/s, it's power used to be the users getting involved, that made the great database which is the heart of the program and the reason for many people to buy the software in the first place.

The way things are going right now is that those same users are being treated like childern and everyone expressing themselves or adressing the issues has a very high chance of either getting their posts/topics deleted or simply be denied.

Berak has a few very valid points and the only response he is getting can be summed up as, well that's not true and see ya.

That is in my opinion a very ungrateful and totally unconstructive way of "dealing" with people.

And about contributions. It might be true that the number of contributions have gone up, i have no way of checking that, but the main reason for that is the new DVD Profiler version.

What i do notice is that the quality of the contributions really has gone down.

I never used to check a contribution in the past if i bought a new dvd but lately i find myself downloading just the covers and making my own personal profiles to go along with them more and more.

Sorry to see you go Berak...

P.S. Ken, If the moderators dare to follow there strict way of moderating, i am sorry to say that they have to edit your post also. The whole Iphone part of your post is totally of topic and tends to distract the people from the actual post made by Berak.

but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: 'WOW What a Ride!!!

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Well, I think that the general forums here are a very fun place to visit, people are nice and you always find something to laugh about.
In the Contribution Discussions it gets heated alot, but I just stay out of this then and do my contributions, so this is a way to fully enjoy this program AND the forums.

just my 2 cents

I am sorry - but Ken's comment in this thread makes it so much easier for me to throw in the towel!

By all means - a thousand thanks to all of you who have been supportive, but when the creator of this excellent program takes it upon himself to belittle my argument, and at the same time derails the thread with some I-phone bolllocks, I cannot but feel that my decision was the right one!

To insinuate that my initial post was "doom & gloom"  is for me evidence that Invelos is currently thwarting any argument that they are heading in the wrong direction. Seriously - my initial post was not that negative that it warranted a reply such as Ken gave.

Again - I feel deeply offended by the comment, and agree wholeheartedly with Gendji, that Ken's post should have been "moderated" if Invelos' current policy regarding "stay-on-topic" were to be enforced!

The "doom & gloom" reference was not towards your initial post, since (as you indicated) your post contains nothing of the sort.  It was referencing posts showing alarm at the loss of users.  I wanted to set those users at ease since the health of the contribution community is very strong.  If you'll read it in the context of the paragraph, hopefully you will see that.  I should have been more clear, though.

I'm still looking for anything I posted which "belittled" your argument.  In point of fact, the only part of my post specifically directed to you was the following: "For those who feel the need to move on, our thanks go to you for your contributions to the community and with them a hope that you'll be back."

I fully acknowledge that there are holes in need of patching in the contribution system.  We're working as fast as we can to get there.  I mentioned the iPhone app specifically since it is taking so much of my time.  If my enthusiasm for the app overflowed a bit, I apologize for that part being off topic.

Thanks for setting me straight - I probably put to much in you reply in the first place.  However, you changing the subject in your post really provoced me...

And to profess that the contribution community is very strong, is, for me at least, ignoring the actual facts of the situation. It might well be that new contributors join as we speak, but you CANNOT ignore the fact that some of your most faithful contributors have openly stated lately that they are leaving due to various issues.

The fact of the matter is, that you belittled my argument just by posting your reply, and went on to discuss a totally different subject - and discussing issues outside the original post is not allowed according to your new forum rules...

I used to think this way, many years ago.  As a forum user, I used to wonder why companies didn't respond more to forum trends and desires.  I used to wonder why they weren't as concerned, as I was, when people stated that they were leaving the forum and the software.  It wasn't until I started working for them, as a moderator, that I discovered the reason  If they are lucky, 10% of the user base will participate in the forums.  Of that group, if they were lucky, half would be 'regulars'.

While I am sorry to see any forum member stop participating, in the grand scheme of things, it really won't have an impact on the program.  I see contributions from non-forum users all the time.  At the moment, I have 18 contributions in my voting queue.  Of that 18, 14 are from people who do not participate in the forums.

It is nice that Ken considers our opinions as much as he does, something that suprised me quite a bit, he still has to consider how things impact the 90% of users we never see.

As I said earlier, we live in a little fishbowl that is the forum.  When someone leaves, it has a huge impact on us.  Ken, on the other hand, owns the entire pet store.  Losing a few goldfish, while unfortunate, doesn't impact him the same way it does us.

Please note, this is all my opinion based on my work with game software companies.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Not everyone is claming "doom & gloom" though Ken. It was more just stating a fact that certain longtime users were choosing to depart.

I for one see contributions still going strong, and the quality of them does indeed seem to be for the most part upper tier.

I think the moderation is doing a good job as well. It's trial and error of course, but there is moderation on every single other forum I visit...and it helps curb anarchy. The question is really how strong moderation should be here.
