I just audited the film 'Gamer'.  In it, there are three odd credits...

  • Directed by Neveldine/Taylor

  • Written by Neveldine & Taylor

  • Executive Producers Neveldine/Taylor

  • For my contribution, I was going to submit it as follows:

For the Director and Executive Producer credits, Mark Neveldine [Neveldine/Taylor] and Brian Taylor [Neveldine/Taylor].
For the writter credit, Mark Neveldine [Neveldine & Taylor] and Brian Taylor [Neveldine & Taylor].

When I uploaded my contribution, I found another one had just been uploaded.  In that contribution, for each credit, they are entered as Mark Neveldine [Neveldine] and Brian Taylor [Taylor].  I voted 'no' as those don't match the actual credits.  Before I went any further, however, I wanted to get some opinions as to which would be correct.

Just as an FYI, the CLT results are:
    Mark Neveldine - 8 titles (28 profiles)
    Brian Taylor - 29 titles (72 profiles)
    Neveldine/Taylor - 4 titles (12 profiles)
    Neveldine & Taylor - 1 titles (1 profiles)

I think I agree with the other guy. Why would you put two different people's names into a single person's  credit? Maybe I'm missing something.

Because that is what the credit SAYS. We didn't create the credit and we don't interpret the data, leave that to the other database.

Martian this is not for you.

    From the Rules
    Crew and Cast
Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits.

    Key word EXACTLY

Okay, whatever. I accept that that's the rule. I'm not looking to change anything.
I'm just trying to understand why it's the rule as it doesn't make sense to me.
Is it because the credits used only their surnames?
I mean what if it said "Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor" in the film credit?
Would you then do "Mark Neveldine [Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor]" in the database?
Of course not, because that would be ridiculous.

It's the Rule because we follow the film credits, Varrus, it is that simple. The method that Martian has suggested is best way to capture the individual names AND the ACTUAL credit.

You can create all sorts of straw man arguments, and if they were using complete names no one would argue with what you said. This is no different from The Wachowski Brothers

BTW: the CLT results need looking into

Mark Neveldine - 8 titles (28 profiles) this is actually only 3 films (Crank, Crank 2 and Gamer)

    and this one

Neveldine/Taylor - 4 titles (12 profiles) this is the same 3 films (Crank, Crank 2 and Gamer)

So either there are different credits in the DVDs or some of them are wrong

I laugh because I had considered using the Wachowskis as the example to illustrate my point but then I figured "nah..."

My money's on the latter. I love it an almost sure bet.

Because that is how they are credited.

That's one perspective, but another (equally valid, IMO) perspective is that each person is credited by last name only.

The Rules have this to say about crew credits:
    Quote:
    List individual credits only...

Neither "Neveldine/Taylor" nor "Neveldine & Taylor" are "individual" credits, they're team credits.  IMO they must be credited individually or not at all.

I'm with Scott here. These shoudl eb broken up into single-name credits or not listed (the former makes more sense).
