Hello,

I'm a noob.  I would like to know if there is a way of importing from Ant Movie Catalog.  AMC can export to csv, xml and some other formats.  I messed around with the headers and imported a csv but some data went to wrong fields and the headers were correct (took them from a mediadogg post).  Also I realized that in BulkEdit there is no year or production year field.  Also I havent found the 'export to csv' column that I've seen mentioned.  Also I don't see any field for the pictures.  I would appreciate any help.  Thank you and great work.

First of all: welcome to the Asylum!

Here are some instructions for importing from other programmes that are able to export CSV and XML.
They involve using the plugin called BulkEdit. I'm not familiar with Ant Movie Catalog, but the import procedure should be similar.

If you have any specific questions about the plugin's usage, you might try and contact mediadogg, the author of the plugin. You can do that by sending him a Private Message.

As far as images go: once you have imported your database to DVDP, try Online / Refresh All Images, which should download the correct images from the Invelos database, if available.

As long as you haven't bought a license, DVDP's functionality will be limited for collections numbering over 50, and you won't get high-resolution images.

All right.  Let me tell you a little bit more.

I love the DVDP interface because it's customizable. And with the LoadDvd plugin it's just what I need except for the fact that some movies in my collection aren't found in the online db.  I definitely don't wanna do manual input of movie data.  I come from Ant Movie Catalog which is an amazing piece of freeware.  It's strong points are the ability to grab every field of data about the DVD from numerous sources on the net.  I dunno if it's legal or not and honestly dont wanna get into that.

The downside to Ant Movie Catalog is that in my case (playing .iso files) and in my opinion is not as user friendly (and DVDP is a lot better looking  ).  I say this because I can deal with complexity but I want my family to be able to browse the collection and watch a movie by themselves without much of a hassle.  I dont have a problem with playing the isos for which I use vlc.

The only dissapointment with DVDP is the software's policy about limiting the online information sources to the propietary online database.  So I was wondering if I could work my profiles on AMC and import it to DVDP so my family could use it more easily.  I'd be willing to pay the registration fee if it could be done.

The ability to import pics is crucial.  And I gotta say that AMC can export to XML but the format isn't the same.  This is a sample xml export from AMC.  I know next to nothing about programming but I think that for a learned dev it'd be fairly simple to do a format converter.

Here is the sample .xml export from Ant Movie Catalog:

Hi, your data imports nicely into Excel, with is a qucik way to test if is well formatted.

But if all you want to do is get a movie database that is the same as your existing one, all you need is the movie UPCs, and there are numeous posts on how to do the import, including one built in to Profiler 3.6 Beta itself. I don't know how many items you have in your collection, but after the Excel import, you can simply go to the URL column and click on the URLs in sequence and copy / paste the UPCs into Profiler Add DVD dialogue, or paste them into a file for import. If the UPCs were aleady in your database, it would be even simpler.

If you also have personal data, then that's where BulkEdit comes in. If you name the headers correctly, the data will go into the fields that you speciified. I don't accept that you labled them correctly, but the data went elsewhere unless you prove it. Show me the file (or a sample that you used). Also, of course BulkEdit supports Production Year, but you don't need to import that. That will come from the Invelos database after your import. You don't need to import ANYTHING about the movie, except your own personal data (purchase info, notes, reviews, etc.). I'm not sure what you want to do with the pcitures. But there are several places to put them: scene gallery, as URLs in Notes, or in a LoadDVD Pro playlist.

If you want to play ISOs or other media, you can look at LoadDVD or LoadDVD Pro plugins, or the Layouts Forum for other ways to play trailers and media.

I suggest you get a license to DVD Profiler for Invelos support and a license to LoadDVD Pro for priority support from me to fast forward your process. There are also a lot of helpful members out there that may contribute to your success along the way.

Send me a PM to discuss other possible options.
Thanks for your support.

Well, thanks for the promp reply mediadogg.  I'm already using your LoadDvd Plugin and I think it's great.  In fact it's the reason for which I'm looking into DVDP. Haven't checked the Pro version though.
I spent too many hours last night fiddling with the this and I'm tired so as soon as I can I will read the posts on upc's and try to do something with that and the other method you described.  Then I'll get back to you.
I definitely appreciate the input.

I haven't read the whole thread but just wanted to make sure you are aware that while contributing info from sources other than the dvd is against the rules for the online database you are free to keep whatever data you want localy.

In addition to this, if you check out the plugin forum, DJ Doena has made a plug in to grab cast\crew info from imdb. So while this data will not be contributable (at least without checking it against the info on disc) it will give you an easy way to fill in the info for any missing profiles (not sure on what info you are personally interested in).

Also, if you do need to add a missing profile if you add the minimul info (locallity, UPC, and title) and contribute that before adding any 'illegal' data it will create that new profile that a) someone else may then add to and/or b) you can then add 'legal' data when you are bored and want to add to the database

well thanks anyway.  I discovered ant movie catalog viewer.  Combined with Ant Music Catalog it's a monster.  It makes it so easy to add a profile and fill all the fields with synopsis, cast, crew and everything in between and then browse the collection in a beautiful interface.  And it's free.  I dunno if they will delete this post.  I just wanted to say thanks to the people that answered my questions.

Not at all mediadogg.  At that point I had both of them installed at the same time and was messing with both ANT and DVDP.  Like I said I liked DVDP interface better but now I know that ANT movie catalog Viewer exists and it's essentially an interface to browse the database created by ANT movie catalog.  I was genuine in all my posts.  I politely said thank you and retired.  Moderators please delete my post and problem solved.

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
