For some movies, I have multiple copies. This is especially true for classics or movies I really love.  Every time a new addition, box set, director's cut, or re-master comes out, I buy it.  Sometimes I give some of the older versions away if there is nothing different about them and I know someone just wanting to see or have the movie itself and aren't picky.  Some movies I have on DVD maybe 2-3 different editions, then on HD-DVD, and then on Blu-Ray and I want to keep them all, but go back and forth on how to count them in my collection.

My question is this.  Has anyone tried to come up with a system for only counting actual movies or versions of movie (Theatrical LOR vs Extended Version of LOR where you might have all three movies in both formats on DVD, and then bought the Theatrical Blu Ray set more recently).  Is anyone counting each of the movies (3) only once or twice (Theatrical/Extended) in this case?  Or perhaps counting the extended versions on DVD (3) and then the 3 Theatrical versions on Blu Ray.  Another option would be counting everything but the 3 separate DVDs of the Theatrical versions that duplicate the 3 movies on BD.
