Kathy:

As I have said before the Online is not to serve the majority or the minority it is to serve EVERYBODY who uses the program, which means of necessity that the Online will not precisely serve the needs of anyONE. While the majority gets their way, they are stealing the utility and usefulness of the program from others, this is quite typical and predictable behavior of the majority, it is not the concern of the majority to worry about ALL, as long as the majority is served.

@ Unicus:

As I have said before and where you and violently disagree is here. It is your belief that if the Rules do not say anything then you are free to do whatever you wish, you can throw data whatever you want and none can say you NO. Keep in mind that if the Rule does NOT exist, then those on the other side are likewise free to do whatever they wish including changing the Contribution that you just made and YOU cannot say NO to them either. So we have a game of ping-pong going, maybe you like that, I don't . So in this case Nick could contribute the divide as a subdivider and since it is not covered by the Rules pre se, no one can stop him, but next week somebody reverse the contribution and YOU nor anyone else would have the right to say NO. It's double edged sword when you start playing or allowing ping-pong games to be played.

As I said, I am fully aware of the situation...though we disagree about the voting.  I don't participate in pin-ponging.  When I submit something that isn't covered by the rules, I follow this pattern:

Submit, if accepted, done with contribution.
Submit, if rejected, done with contribution.

If someone comes along and tries to change what I have contributed, I vote 'no' with an explanation as to why I feel it shouldn't be changed, and let the screeners decide.  If they accept the change, I live with it and will not submit that profile again.

I believe that this first sentence is the basic problem. There is nothing, and certainly not a database, that will serve everyone. Such a thing does not and can not exist.

Excellent point. The only database that serves everyone equally is an empty one.

This.

Saying there is a database that pleases everyone is the equivalent of saying the customer is always right. Anyone who has ever worked retail knows that is not true.

This.
...

Agree on this also.

And btw, for personnel use (= local) I would change the middle divider to Wing Commander Guy Gibson's Crew.
Because for me it is more important to have information to the role than having the credits as they're written on the screen. (Without seeing the cast list "His Crew" is very useless)

By your own comments and the Rules, you can't vote No, it's not against the rules. Let's see you want to be able to define the Rules as you want and (on demand), you want the ability to vote as you wish without regard to the Rules and you want to establish afield for playing ping-pong but block if someone really wants to play. Fascinating.

Not correct at all on any point. You clearly don't understand the program. The Online serves ALL, the Local serves YOU. The problem is that so few users really and truly comprehend this and they want the Online to serve as THEIR reference point, which is not it's function. The strength of profiler lies in exactly the division of the online and the Local. In fact actually Profiler has three separate legs, the Online, your Local and your Local Online, which is why it is among the powerful such programs out there, but it is getting weaker as users successfully impose their particular preferences on the Online, such as THIS particular thread. It really is a shame.

There are so many experienced users on this forum, you should have asked someone before it was too late.

Congratulations
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

You aren't going to like this, but here goes...

These are the rules for voting:
  • If a user is following the Contribution Rules and his/her data is accurate, and the contribution replaces data which is inaccurate or violates these Contribution Rules, a "No" vote is considered an abuse of the voting privilege and should be avoided when possible.

  • Conversely, voting "Yes" to a contribution which violates these Contribution Rules should also be avoided.

  • Include a reason for any "No" vote that you cast in order to provide useful feedback to the contributor (and the Invelos Reviewers.)

  • You will note that the rules for voting only cover contributions that follow, or violate, the Contribution Rules.  Since this particular issue, by your own admission, is neither allowed nor disallowed, it can't follow or violate the rules.  Since it can't, it is not covered by the voting rules.  As long as I follow the third rule for 'no' votes, I am free to vote my conscience.

I'm sorry, Skip, but the online most certainly does not serve all. There are numerous covers online that don't match the covers I own. That is but one example of the online not serving me.

(Note, I don't care, but you cannot say with such authority that the online serves all when it clearly does not. It serves the majority and I'm fine with that.)
