I've always been curious as to whether it is possible to code the forum software so that if someone is on your block list, they can't post in a thread you created?

I don't know if that would work. Otherwise I'll block you and then start a thread entitled "Antares, post in this thread only if you aren't a jerk."

Hilarity ensues.

Of course this could be coded like that. But as I have said in another thread, the thread creator should not be the owner of the thread and his settings should not influence anything but his own postings.

Exactly, RHo.

It's just a matter of "permissions". If you can block a person from sending a PM (or, at least, preventing it from reaching you) because that person is on your block list, the same idea could be worked in favor of a topic starter.

One downside, per se, is that the person blocked via PM doesn't especially know this is the case. With almost all forum software I heave dealt with, the PM acts the same to the sender as if not blocked which keeps the person from knowing (s)he is on your block list.  The same can't be said for a topic post.

So, though possible, it isn't entirely practical (which is probably why you don't see it as standard in forum softwares).
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

I have nothing against the original request of being able to see a placeholder for blocked posts as that's 100% local to each user.

I would however have a problem with blocking posts from users in particular threads as that would be open to be exploited. It's possible that people might gang up on a user and effectively ban them from posting in any threads outside of their own.
