I'm at the point where I'm entering my TV on DVD collection into my profiler, and I'd really like to keep it separate from my movies.  Is there an easy way to make it so that I have all my movies listed together and then all my TV on DVD listed instead of having them all mixed together?

As your question already implies, create one or more Custom Categories.

See Tools/Edit Collection Categories.

Yeah, caught that after I posted my question.  I'm really bad at finding a lot of these things, takes a while.

Now my next questions:

1.  Do I have to manually add all 700+ movies to my movie category one by one?

2.  When I add a DVD to my collection, I don't see an option to make it part of a category.  Am I missing something painfully obvious?

Thanks :-)

Flag them by typing Ctrl&a and then goto Collection -> Flagged -> Move to and your new Category should be visible there.

hm, if you change to the "Movies"-Category prior to clicking "Add DVD" it should end up in the right category.

Yes. You can select the category here:
