I often want to get information about a title in the database without actually adding it to my collection, and right now I'm pretty sure I'm doing the dumb / slow way.

I initiate the "Add DVD to Collection" process, wait for "online collection scan" to complete, then input the UPC or the title, and after I've gotten what I need, cancel out of the "add" process.

There's bound to be a better way of doing this.

Thanks in advance.

I don't recall ever running across a search through the website (likely intentional as an extra precaution of protecting data from direct linking by other sites.) All of a dozen simple "backdoor" methods I have tried (editing a UPC for a title that I have which I can see data for, replacing it with the UPC of a title that I didn't have) in an attempt to access the entire dataset for a title required the title to be in my online collection already.

However, you can get a partial list of data at:
http://www.invelos.com/ProfileLinks.aspx?id=[X]  (replace [X] with the UPC)

It displays a thumbnail cover scan, locality, production year, media type, director, and the first five people listed in the cast. It's the same data given to you (I believe) if you do a preview of a profile while still in the Add DVD page looking through the titles. The purpose of the page, however, is the displaying of related external links.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

Thanks. Sometimes the online collection scan is slow, and this is a process I repeat a lot.

I can't leave that particular window open either, because the parent processes (access to the local database) are blocked. It would be great some day if stuff could be run in separate threads, so you could do useful things in more than one app window at a time.

http://www.invelos.com/ProfileLinks.aspx?id=[X]

Helps for some stuff, but I don't know where other than our database that I can go to look for all the DiscIDs associated with a title.
