I hate making long detailed posts here, just to have the forum return some kind of weird error when I click the Submit button and lose everything I just tried to post, it's happened twice now.

I just tried to make a post in the Contribution forum, with a lot of painstaking detail in it, clicked the Submit button, the forum gave me some kind of a weird error message and I lost everything I had just taken a great deal of time and effort to type.

I will NOT recreate my post, I'm suitably pissed that I lost everything that I'd wanted to say.      -kd5-

Cookies after opening the post-editor are only valid for about 10 minutes.

When posting longer replies it has shown to be useful to write them in Wordpad (comes with Windows) first and then use "Copy and Paste".

When forgetting to do this your Browser has a very useful button, the "Back"-button. This will get you back to your message. Use "Copy", refresh the page then paste your message back into the editor.

When knowing some basic HowTo there's usually no need to be "suitably pissed".
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Unfortunately it doesn't (here). I ran into the same error message twice over the past few weeks (never before though) and when you click "back", the text box is cleared.

Probably it's because of your browser settings.
I set mine (Opera) so that it keeps track of everything and only deletes it when I close the browser, or delete manually. But since this is more or less the default, it should work on most installations.

There's no need to use Wordpad, just remember to copy your text to clipboard before hitting Preview or Submit button. But still I agree, this "feature" is very annouying.

I used to run across this all of the time since my posts would get wordy when attempting to describe how to do something when helping someone else.

I have a habit now, when the post is long, to copy to the clipboard as suggested above which takes less than a second to do (CTRL+A CTRL+C) before submitting so that I can go back and paste if the timeout occurs.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

I've had that happen to me many times and on other boards..  What I usually do.,as others have also suggested ..is use clipboard as well...so. if I think it will be a lengthy post I'll type it out on a note pad then copy and  paste it back here .....

I always enjoy your lengthy rants ..and now will never know ....

keep up the good work..
