Hi,

Yesterday, 23th of march (my birthday), I got my own PS3.

It looks like a nice player. fast, quiet, can be set upright, ... a nice Blu-ray player.

To bad I cannot enjoy the pcm yet. Although my receiver accepts HDMI and plays 7.1 PCM, my projector has only Component.

Therefore I cannot use sound thru HDMI and Image through Component.... That was what I hoped for, but doesn't work.

(I have a Denon 3806, If someone knows that this DOES work, please let me know how.)

One major dissapointment yesterday was the lack of Blu-ray discs. The player has been showed to the people as a gaming machine. Only the ones who knew... were looking for BD's.
A great opportunity has been passed... at least in the 3 shops I went to... of which 1 was a DVD/Music store (few discs), 1 was a gamer store(no discs) and 1 as a wholesale store(no discs).

Any of you got their PS3 yesterday/ today....

Ro-Disc in Rotterdam probably has Blu-ray
But if I am not mistaken you are from Belgium right?
Well no need to panic, we always come in great numbers to Antwerp. I have to say, welcome to Rotterdam

Congrats on the PS3!  I don't know if the Denon 3806 can switch the video from HDMI to component, but I do know that it is possible.  The receiver has to perform the HDMI "handshake" to be able to seperate the sound from the picture.  This is definitely a question for a Denon customer service person or your local home theater merchant.

As far as the lack of movies are concerned, ordering from an online dealer could give you some relief (if you don't mind ordering online).

Play.com

HMV.co.uk

There maybe some titles on these sites that are not carried in your local stores.  The titles are few titles in Europe right now, but it should get much better now that the PS3 has launched there.

Here is an older version of the UK release schedule.

This is a list of all the region free Blu-ray titles.  That should also help a little.

A lot more information can be found HERE.

Here's another PS3 owner in Europe, but I'm not proud yet. I like the Xbox 360 better, still. But with coming games, maybe interests will shift. The current offerings aren't mind-boggling.

Saturn, where I bought the PS3 (they had about 13 or so stacked up) on Saturday, had a small selection of Blu-ray discs (maybe 15 titles). At the moment there are not many interesting titles, so I got Casino Royale. A bit stupid, since the title is offered free for the first 475.000 registrants at Playstation Network. Oh well, I can always sell that one on eBay. :-)

You do have the most powerful gaming console on the planet, but there will be a lot more to be proud of.  Of course, like any new console, there will be a lack of titles at first.  Here is the upcoming list of games.  Of course, there are 1000+ PS1 and 2 games that can keep you occupied, like God of War 2, until more PS3 games hits the streets.

I have an Xbox 360 as well, but mine has been collecting dust since I got the PS3.  NBA Street: Homecourt, F1 Racing, MotorStorm, Virtua Fighter 5, Elder Scrolls IV, etc have been more than keeping me from thinking about my Xbox 360.  Then, there are my Blu-ray titles that have been more than addictive.  The movie titles are coming soon for the UK.  You guys will basically get what we have.  I have managed to get my hands on 145 titles that I liked so far.  I'm sure you will be able to as well...pretty soon.  I'm thinking about importing The Exorcism of Emily Rose from the UK (it's region free).  I want that title bad.

PS3 "Home" is looking better that Xbox Live in orders of magnatude (and it will be free).  That link is to a 21 minute video demonstration of "Home".  Enjoy!

Here is a 18 minute video demo of "Little Big World" featuring real time rendering.  You will be able to create your own games, try out other people's games, and rate them!  It's kind of like being able to create Toy Story like games in real-time.

I only bought Resistance for the PS3 yet, the only other title I'm interested in would be Ridge Racer 7 (I completed Ridge Racer 6 on XB360). F1, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter, all other sports games aren't my cup of tea. After playing Gears of War three times through, the beginning of Resistance is quite disappointing. I just put HOURS into Dead Rising on the XB360 - not easy, but it really grows on you when you give it a chance. Lost Planet is on the to-do stack but I'm not so eager to play it further at the moment.

Home and Little Big Planet are still far off and I pretty much like a "clean" UI better than this 3D stuff in Home. Little Big Planet looks promising, but I'm a bit suspicious if it's really handable or something you look and dabble at for half an hour and then put it aside. In the meantime, I'll probably really catch up on PS2 games, I skipped that machine. God of War and Shadow of the Colossus are very intriguing.

Congratulations to everyone who was able to get a PS3!
I've had mine since last December and must say that I am quite happy with it.  I know the lack of games is a downside for a lot of people, but this way I actually get to play through the games I got instead of buying new ones every few weeks and starting all over.  I actually watch more movies than I play games as well... Amazon should have a big collection of Blu-Rays, I heard that most stores in Europe are still holding back in stocking them, since the whole HD / HD Ready TV sensation is just starting up.
I am sure there will be more titles within a couple of months.
Not sure about the HDMI thing minimoke is asking, I only have component on my tv, but the uncompressed audio is pretty impressive (check out Black Hawk Down or Underworld:Evolution).

Enjoy your systems!

I have 13 titles, so I just wanted to name some good titles (good reviews) in a few areas of gaming.  If you like RR7,  I was pretty sure you would like MotorStorm (similar premise and high game ratings).

Gears of War is a great game.  It is extremely short because of the space limitations on the Xbox 360 (3 hours of game play).  In contrast, the maps on Resistance: FoM are huge.  It takes a lot more time to complete Resistance than Gears of War.  Not to mention it is great to be able to have 40 people on one map without being too crowded.

Yes, these are definitely good games, but it took a year after the console came out to start to maximize it's potential with these titles.

The message board style GUI is worth the cost per year to you?

How far off do you think "Home" is?  They should be taking beta testers soon.  The sign-up website is up right now.

I watch more movies than I play games as well.  I normally would have suggested Amazon for the UK, but I heard a couple people say they sometimes have reliability issues.  but it may not be true.

Is far as great sound is concerned, try the only High-Def title with 7.1 uncompressed PCM...Innonence (Ghost in the Shell 2).  It is a Japanese import w/regional encoding, so you must be in region A to use this one.  The Descent (it gives a good feeling of sound space and depth) and Tears of the Sun would be a couple others that comes to mind for great sound.

Congrats to those who were able to grab a PS3!  I will continue to enjoy this unit as it improves.

MotorStorm and Ridge Racer are COMPLETELY different games! MotorStorm is off-road dirt racing and Ridge Racer over-the-top arcade style drift racing. I hate, hate, hate off-road and simulation racing (Gran Turismo, PGR, Forza), that's why I'm playing Ridge Racer. :-)

THREE hours? I wanna see you play through Gears in that short amount of time. :-) It's more like 5-6 hours. Yes, that may be short, but it's really an experience when you play on medium or hard difficulty (Easy is not a challenge). I don't think the DVD is a problem in contrast to Blu-ray. I'd really be interested in how much space on the Blu-ray disc is actually USED by Resistance. Is that information available somewhere? I can imagine there's only maybe 5 or 6 GB on it.

Yes, sure. That's why it'll be interesting to see how PS3 games look in a year.

Yes. After dabbling around with XMB on the PS3 (I also have a PSP so it wasn't that new to me) I like the UI of the Xbox better. Sure, it's more colorful, maybe even more playful, but I think the usability is higher. Home looks like some kind of Second Life clone and I'm not enthusiastic about THAT. :-)

Home is scheduled for Autumn 2007, so I guess it'll be November. Little Big Planet is scheduled for beginning of 2008.

Ok.  I was basing it on the fact that they are both racing games that use boost to help complete a course in a somewhat airy setting.

I can finish it in a little over 3 1/2 hours.  My friend can do it in just over 3 hours.

Resistance is 16GB.  If they had enough time to make it 1080p, the game would have been 22GB.

I think the real beginning for AMAZING 1080p games will be next month when Lair comes out.

Exactly!  I guess it's all relative.  I think that's right around the corner.  The beta testing should proabably begin in the next few weeks.  Hopefully, I can get in on that.
