The US Scarface gift box release (025192315824) has no audio tracks, dimensions, features (apart from the 'Other Features'), cast, crew or other such information. The overview states:

Quote:
- Scarface
- Scarface: Two-Disc Anniversary Edition

It contains two different films as box set contents:
Scarface (025192-312120)
Scarface: Two-Disc Anniversary Edition (025192-315725)

The production year for the profile is 1983; I submitted a change saying it should be 1932 because the rules state "Production Year for a Box Set should be the year of the earliest feature release in the set."

With a Yes 1 – No 2 vote, the change was declined. I understand the 'main film' is Brian De Palma's 1983 version of Scarface, but that's not how the rules are supposed to work – this is a box set with two films so I was surprised it was declined.

Is it a box set or not?

When is a box set not a box set? Well, when the contribution rules say so. And that's the case here, so no, this is indeed not a box set. Instead, the 1932 version is a Bonus Feature Film, as explained in the contribution rules here (bottom of the page).

Quote:
Bonus Feature Films The term "Bonus Feature Film" is used to define any feature film that is included as part of the bonus material for a single release. These are not the same as Double Features or Anthology Collections which are a collection of films grouped together which require the "Box Set" contribution rules. Do not confuse "Bonus Feature Films" with "Any video documentary material regarding the film, or those associated with it." Those are Featurettes. Some examples of Bonus Feature Films are:
- Previous movie versions, example "Ben-Hur: Four-Disc Collector's Edition" which includes the 1925 version.
- Companion movie bonuses, example "Season of the Witch" which includes "There's Always Vanilla" from the same director.

Create the profile for the main feature in line with the standard Contribution Rules with the title of the Bonus Feature Film added to the Other Features field. Create a child profile for the "Bonus Feature Film" using its individual UPC if available or use Disc ID (read on a DVD-ROM) if not available. If the Disc ID is already in use, create an alternate version Disc ID. When creating a child profile, do not remove the "Bonus Feature Film" Disc ID from the main profile. When profiling the "Bonus Feature Film", only profile the data associated with that film. Any features associated with the Main Feature belong to the Main Feature profile. Add the additional profile to the Main Profile as a child profile via the Box Set button. Cover Images: Use the cover image from the Main Feature profile's packaging. Exception: If the "Bonus Feature Film" is individually packaged, use the cover images from that packaging.

This seems exactly like the example that the rules give, the "Ben-Hur: Four-Disc Collector's Edition" which includes the 1925 version. So no, this is not a box set, but a bonus feature film. As such, the production year for the parent remains 1983.

T!M is right... this would be a bonus feature film.

I agree with T!M, however all the pertinent information for the 1983 Scarface should be in the main profile, and the 1932 profile should be attached to it in the box set contents.  However, the profile is currently set-up wrong

So the set-up should be:

Scarface (1983)
- Scarface (1932)

Not as it is currently:

Scarface (box)
- Scarface (1983)
- Scarface (1932)

I don't own the set, so I'm not going to make changes, but if we go with the bonus feature film, which I agree is correct per the rules, then the rest of the profile must support that.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

As it isn't a box set, the main profile (which would normally be a parent profile in a box set setup) should have all of the information from Brian de Palma's Scarface, with Howard Hawks' original linked as box set contents.

So the set-up should be:

Scarface (1983)
- Scarface (1932)

Not as it is currently:

Scarface (box)
- Scarface (1983)
- Scarface (1932)

Indeed. It's not a box set, so it shouldn't be set up like one. The parent should have all the 1983 data, and there should a single Bonus Feature Film child profile for the 1932 version attached to the parent. The other child profile should be removed.

I do this all the time and call it a box set because of it being 2 films. If it were 2 versions of the same film then no. I keep them local and never contribute.

T!M is spot on.  This is a a "Bonus Feature Film" set, not a Box Set.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I've changed the data for the profile, adding all the 1983 information to what was the parent profile, and have contributed it. No one has voted yet.
