A simple solutions to the credits mess |

| | Posted: | | | | It's been suggested many times to have a system where we don't have separate, independent credits on every profile. It creates a lot of labor and inaccurate data when popular movies have 100 or so profiles between all the releases for all the countries. However, this would require major changes to the db, which is probably why we haven't seen it yet.
What if each profile were just tied to a master profile that controls the credits for everything tied to that profile? This would require just a few minor tweaks: The system to link profiles and a way to make updates to the credits be automatically copied to everything else in the group and something on the back-end to make approvals match up for all of them. |

Why I bring that up is because sometimes episodes from different tv series is put in a compilation set. A comprehensive solution for TV episodes and shorts would require a rules change or major changes to the DB structure, but for the most part, different releases of a show will break up episodes by disc the same way. Obviously, this won't work for best-of collections and the like, but still it would get shows down to 2-3 copies of an episode in most cases, which is a lot better than the current solution. |
