| Posted: | | | | Occasionally, I run into the situation where both father and son share the same name denoted by Sr. or Jr. and both had prolific hollywood careers. What gets interesting is when both will simply get credit for the common name. In particular, Lon Chaney, Sr. and Jr. comes to mind. Both most often were listed as simply Lon Chaney. On the crew side, Harry Stradling, Sr. and Jr. behave the same way. These two are even more interesting as they were both Cinematographers. My inclination in these cases, is to list them as either Sr. or Jr. and use "credited as" to show the common name. The other possibility, is to have two Lon Chaney's deliniated by birth year, for example. To me, the birth year solution makes no sense, because we already have distinct records for these people in the cast and crew lists as Sr. and Jr. Adding yet more records just seems silly to me. I bring this up because of all the uneasiness attached to "credited as" and "birth year." What's the lesser of the two evils? | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

Crew can be a little more difficult when it comes to a common name espically sound crew. They use nick names a lot of times in the credits and don't seem to standardize on a credited name. Take Charles A. McDaniel III, I've seen him credited as Charlie, with or without the A., and with or without the III. Using any of the combinations given above. | | | Are you local?
