I'm running a fully registered version of 3.03 and I keep getting a box popping up asking me if I want to save or open the following file: tempnote.html.  If I click open it opens an empty browser page at file:///C:/DocumentsandSettings/"my account"/ApplicationData/DVDProfiler/Temp/tempnote.html.  If I click save I am able to save this file.  If I click cancel it goes away.  However accessing virtually any feature of the program brings this annoying option up.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Wolfgang.

are you running the latest? DVD Profiler Version 3.0.3, Build 1136?

When a profile is displayed DVDP creates a file called tempnote.html to display your notes if you have enabled html notes.  It has to create a file on disk for the internet explorer object to display it inside the window.

It seems that you have security settings in your windows that require you to confirm every time this file is to be overwritten.  Two questions come to mind.

Are you using Vista ?
Are you using DVDP with a user that has administrative privileges ?

Thanks for your help.

I am running Windows XP, and have administrator privileges.

This problem was not present when I first installed this release of the program, but has suddenly appeared, nor was it ever present when I ran earlier releases.  Also, five copies of the window pop up immediately upon opening the program.

Don't know if any of this extra info helps, but it I guess can't hurt.

Again, thanks for your help.

Is the file still there after you exit DVDP? If yes, it might help to manually delete it...

Uninstall and re-install maybe? Of course after backing up your database...

Yep, tried that last night, but still no luck.

I also tried unclicking the option in the box that says "Always ask me about this type of file" or whatever it said, hoping that would solve the problem.  Unfortunately now I get a box which says "Windows cannot find C:/Documents and Settings/"my account"/Application Data/DVD Profiler/Temp/tempnote.html", it and opens up a browser window.  The file IS there (albeit empty of data), and Windows has no trouble finding it when I do a search.

What security software are you running on Windows XP?

When did it last do an update to your system? Are you able to uninstall this most recent update?

You could as well create a new user profile and see if the problem occurs in that new profile as well.

After re-loading my database I am no longer getting the "Windows cannot find C:/Documents and Settings/"my account"/Application Data/DVD Profiler/Temp/tempnote.html" message - it just opens a blank browser page with the url "file:///C:/Documents and Settings/"my account"/Application Data/DVD Profiler/Temp/tempnote.html".

I'm running Norton's Anti-virus and Zone Alarm.  I don't believe either have been updated in the gap between DVD Profiler working and playing up.

Thanks for all your help, but I've just about had enough.  I'll either wait till the next update of DVD Profiler, or just forget it altogether...this problem has made me realise that the only time I usually open the program is to add new DVDs to the database.  Then it sits there unused till I add another one.

I think I'll manage to get by without it.

I have the same problem.

I am running XP on a mac using Parallels. Same annoying thing pops up. Never happened in the old DVDP.

Would appreciate any help also.

It isn't a Profiler problem.  It's a Windows problem.  I noticed you are running NAV and Zone Alarm on the same machine.  I have never found them to be compatible.  Try closing down both of them and see if the problem persists.  Also make sure you have ALL of the Windows firewall stuff turned off.  It doesn't play well with other such programs either.

I'm running XP Pro with Norton System Works, and Sygate firewall (bought out by Symantec - no longer available), and the same version of Profiler you have and it works flawlessly.

I gave disabling NAV and ZA a go, (and I always have the Windows firewall stuff turned off) and I wasn't surprised that it didn't help.  I've never had any problems with them, and as I said in a previous post, when I first installed the new release of Profiler it worked fine.

It's a mystery.
