It's based on a British TV Series called Man About the House.
In the credits it has:
"Based on a Thames Television Program Man About The House
Created by Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke"
How would I credit them, if at all? |

I would credit both of them as "Based on Characters by". As the rules state: "Used for screenplays based on characters from another work, credit the author of the characters here. For example comic adaptations and sequels." I would say your question fits that bill... | | | The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson) |

How would I credit them, if at all? IMO I probably would use "Original Material By," since its based on another tv show. Now if the characters are using the same names and the show follows the same premise then I would use "Original Characters By." | | | We're on a mission from God.

Man About the House has Robin Tripp instead of Jack Tripper, Chrissy, Jo, Larry, and George and Mildred Roper. The scripts for at least the first season of Three's Company were almost entirely the same as MATH. MATH also spawned two spinoffs - George and Mildred - where the Ropers move away, and Robin's Nest - where Robin Tripp runs a bistro and gets married. Sound familiar to anyone? | | | I don't wanna be like everyone else, that's why I'm a mod, see? |

Now if the characters are using the same names and the show follows the same premise then I would use "Original Characters By." But as I see it, "Original Material By" would be wrong. The rules state that this is to be used for movies "Adapted from another medium." The "medium" is the keyword here to me, and tells me that you should only use this if the Original Material is a book, radio show, short story or something like that. If it it based on another movie or series, then the medium is the same, and you should use "Original Characters By", even if the story is also the same. The rules for OCB says "Used for screenplays based on characters from another work, credit the author of the characters here. For example comic adaptations and sequels." So, whenever a movie or series is based on another movie or series, you should use OCB - even for remakes. At least, that is how I see it. I may be wrong, but it is the rules... | | | The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson) | | | Last edited: by Rander |
