I'm having a question regarding the R2 NL release for Stalingrad. The version I have is a steelbook edition and was entered as such in the database when I looked for it. It got changed recently to a keep case with new cover scans. The coverscans show the same UPC. Which edition should be contributed into the online database? I had missed the submission due to the holidays or I would have at least made some remarks in the votes.

What belongs in the online database is the original release. If you can find out which of the two is the earlier release, you'll have your answer.

I have re-read the old contribution notes for this last contribution and according to the contributor he is using the first release which is a rental release. What is the policy on rental releases? Is this allowed?

I'm not sure, really. The Contribution Rules provide no answer to your question. Anyone?

I'm not sure either. However I think the sales version should have priority above the rental version IF they have the same EAN.

I feel the same way since the retail version is the one that you can buy in shops. I think it's even not allowed to buy rental version as they are, well for rental use only. But yes, the rules don't mention anything on this.

I'm inclined to agree with both of you. Only remaining question: why did the Invelos screeners approve the contribution that replaced data from the retail version with data from the rental version?

Probably because the rules don't say anything about it. It's also possible they simply missed it, I can imagine they have to process a great deal of contributions daily so errors can occur. I'm waiting with recontributing the old data though as I want some more opinions, maybe the rules do say something somewhere and we just didn't find it.

I do know (ex-) rental versions are allowed, there are enough of them to be found in the online database and I also have two of them myself, but I do not know if they may replace retail/sales versions if they have the same EAN and were released before them.

Yes, rules say:

"DVD Release Date
Use the date when the DVD was first released for sale in its specific locality."

Sale, not Rental!

IMHO this rule is also applicable for packaging and cover.

Thanks for your clarification! Therefore the contribution Fogeltje mentioned should be reversed.

Wish I had this problem. When Hollywood was closing stores a couple months back I picked up a bunch of lower budget horror movies on the cheap, and out of probably 15-20 enetered, only one matched the UPC. Disc ID's always matched the retail versions, but I had to change each UPC and usually update the existing profile as well.
Someone has to give these movies most don't own or care about some love, so I have been a loving fool.

My point: Strange that rental versions have same UPC for you. Must be a regional thing.
