We have a user who is mindlessly propagating Scott Rudin BY because it was previousluy accepted and a bunch of users even more mindlessly accepting it. There is only ONE Scott Rudin the BY should be REMOVED period not propagated.

Maybe he's related to the BYed Scott Rudin?  (Or perhaps he IS the BYed Scott Rudin?

I agree, it's a nuisance to have to vote on all these changes if they're unnecessary.  I saw four of them last night.  According to the CRT he's shown in 320 titles (940 profiles) -- so we may have a lot of things to keep track of.

I wonder why this person thinks the BY is needed?  Even IMDb only shows ONE Scott Rudin.

There are two aspects to this kind of thing that annoys me. Those that blindly voted No, and those that since the error was pointed out have not changed their vote to No , and some of those same users are users that CLAIM to support the rules, but to neutral. It is simple an error was spotted, I am sure knowing the user that he will withdraw them. I did not bring it here for his benefit. I brought it here because I was shocked at both the quantity and in some cases the identities of users who were simply, blindly following along.

On the other hand, I tend to lean in favor of voting YES if a BY was previously accepted with the rational that someone did the homework already and I don't know myself if there's more than one such actor or not.  If there is a BY in the Invelos DB, I'm going to assume it's a good BY unless someone brings it up.

In this case, I didn't vote yes because I always check other votes first and I saw your no votes.  Yes, a BY in the DB could be wrong or unnessary but don't chastise people because they voted yes on a previously accepted BY.

I am not chastising anyone individually and would not, no matter how much I might be tempted to. Why is not appropriate? I didn't look at the votes I do that AFTER I have voted every time. I initially suspected that this was in error, let's face it Rudin is not a common name, so I ran a quick check to verify my suspicions and then voted. Better to take care with my votre than to allow bad data or data that does not conform to the Rules to be further proagated. If those who blindly voted yes have such a thin skin, then they have a problem, not I. But I am sorry when some of these are users who hold themselves up to be supporters of Rules and knowledgeable about all thing Hollywood vote Yes to such an obvious error, or worse yet then chnage their vote to neutral instead of the appropriate No, then I have great difficulty in respecting those individuals or their opinions.

Do I consider myslef knowledgeable about Hollywood? Yes, I am smarter than the average bear, Boo-Boo. But that does not mean I know EVERYTHINHG or that I cannot make mistakes, I do all too often and when such mistakes are pointed out I CORRECT them without fail. I will not change a Yes vote to a Neutral when it should be a No.

As one of those users who changed my YES, and when  I voted there were no other votes so I took the user at his word, who then changed my vote to NEUTRAL, I could care less about whether you respect me or not. Your relentless calling out of people who make honest mistakes as though they have committed a crime is really getting old. I didn't start a thread to call you out when you blindly voted YES when someone changed James King to Jamie King, She is credited on screen as James King, in the Pearl Harbor profile without checking it out. I sent you a polite PM about it. Why you feel the NEED to do this publicly really mystifies me. It's rude, impolite and belittling, yet you wonder why people give you negs (I haven't given anyone a NEG at all).

I think a post in the forum is a reasonable way of responding to an incorrect post that's garnered a large number of yes votes.  Trying to PM double-digits worth of users is a little much to expect of anyone.

I agree. Invelos has been very strict with the acceptance of birth years. If they have accepted this on I would want proof it is not correct before changing my vote.

Just because someone says he know it's not correct doesn't make it so, no matter who that person is or how loud they proclaim it.

@Skip - Show me proof his contribution is incorrect and I will change my vote. Why should I or anyone else take your word for it. You certainly do not take anyones word when they make such claims.

<rant>
Once again the attack on everyone who voted YES for something is completely out of line. This user is not mindlessly doing anything. He came to the forum for advice. Posted questions and received answers. Only after that did he proceed with what he said he was going to do in his forum post. Far from mindless. Fact is it was well thought out IMO.

Voting yes to someone who comes here with questions, gets answers and submits based on those answers is far from mindless as well.

Only one person had to be PMd - the contributor. If they withdraw, there's no need to contact any of the voters.

I agree, smee.  I bet most of the people who voted YES did so before the first NO vote was cast.  Once I've voted I seldom go back to that contribution again -- unless someone either PMs me about my vote or posts the info to the forum.  And you're right, smee, it's much easier to post here than to send out a dozen or so PMs.

@cmaeditor
Maybe I'd be a little bit more diplomatic about the error if I post it here, but I don't see any reason we can't point out that people are voting yes for incorrect data.  It's not like Skip identified anybody in his original post -- so only people who had voted on one of the Scott Rudin changes would know who he's talking about.  And if that hurts your feelings, too bad.  The only wiggle room I'd give to the YES voters is the chance that they voted YES before the first person pointed out the error (which sounds like what you did).

Sorry Skip, but they have as much right to vote neutral on any profile as you did when you mistakingly voted "no" to Tim's case type change just over a month ago. Or should we respect you less because you didn't change it to "yes"?

I'm glad you find insulting people so funny...
So you're saying that people who choose not to vote are not following the rules? So were you breaking the rules when you changed your vote to neutral?

I think northbloke's point is that you have a different standard for yourself and others. When you change a vote to neutral, it's none of our concern. When we do it, it's "even worse" than voting incorrectly.

When others make mistakes, you say we're "mindless". When you make them, they are a boo boo (example #1)
boo boo (example #2).

I originally voted yes because if the birth year is already in the system, the documentation has already been reviewed and accepted by Invelos. Once you called it into question, I felt there was sufficient evidence to suggest you are right; however, I did not feel I had enough information to vote 'no'. What profile started the birth year for Scott Rudin? What documentation has Invelos already reviewed? I don't know yet. Until I'm certain it's wrong, I can't vote no. But with the doubt that you've raised, I changed to neutral. I'm not a rule-breaker for not believing I have enough information with which to cast a vote.
