and as promised, sending up removal of this from the listed profiles that already contained it.

That's great. Thanks!

I'll tell ya how the BY for Scott Rudin got into the Invelos Database. I just downloaded and installed the Headshot database and prior to that there was no BY for Scott Rudin in any of my profiles. Well...there is now .

I was reading through this thread and was thinking to myself that the birth year probably got there due to the headshot database. I have come up with a lot of actors and actresses that now have birth years that did not before and when I look, it is because of the new database. Not trying to complain about it as it has some nice pics, so all I do is remove the birth year whenever I come across one from that database.

A couple problems here: to all the peopel saying how do we know there's only one Scott Rudin?: I would think the burden of proof would be on whoever is tryign to propogate the birth year.  By doing so, you are, in fact, saying there is more than one and should mention who the other one is as part of justification of your update.

Also, I see nothing in the rules that says we can't use third-party sources to distinguish between two people with the same name.

I just spent the good part of yesterday and this evening removing all the invalid BYs it downloaded into my profiles. As I was removing one BY I noticed one of the headshots was a nude. Now I'll have to go through each headshot and delete those as well .

Please Note: I removed my contributions for The Queen and Lemony Snicket in the UK locatlity due to myself not realizing that Behemot already put in full audits for those titles.

Please take a look at these screen caps from my submission of one of these title for correction, as it does not make any sense to me and shows some type of flaw in the system...

as you can see Frears and Morgan both show birth year in the Master DB as well as the Local - yet they are both flagged as unapproved and require a check box.

I left Paul Davies unchecked, as I needed to do more research on that.

All the other names are the cast... which as you can see did not show up as an option to contribute, because there are no changes.... yet a ton of their names are in there as unapproved birth years... this occurred on most of the titles i downloaded from the original list, it is my belief that these titles are full of un-needed, unapproved birth years, which by the way i need to now manually clean out of my database...

how could they all have gotten in like that in the first place?

When DVD Profiler 3.0 was released, and birth years were a new feature, many users contributed all the birth years they could find, as the rules didn't say anything about NOT doing this, and it was thought that this would add valid data to the database. Then when the rules were updated in the beginning of April 2007, people stopped doing this, as it was now only allowed to distinguish between same-name cast/crew members. However, profiles contributed WITH birth years in March 2007 (BEFORE the rule change) which have not been edited at a later point will still contain these birth years.

I'm sure these BYs came from the headshot Master Database. I removed the BY from Stephen Frears last night from my profiles. It wasn't there prior to downloading the HSMDB. Just to make sure it wasn't a previously accepted BY I checked the online profiles and there was no BY in them.

As I understand these checkboxes for Frears and Morgan should not be there.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

I mentioned about this in the forum where the link for the headshots is kept. When I was installing the headshots in my database, I opted to watch the replacements (instead of just letting them all get replaced) and came across 2 nude shots.

I didn't check that option. Perhaps I should have. Hopefully there aren't that many in my Db.

KenGeri had mentioned that they had gone through and removed all the spurious BY's - I had though that this meant they had physically deleted them - but perhaps all it means is that they marked them as invalid without actually removing them.

So that when someone tried to contribute them they would need to provide supporting documentation.

exactly - i thought it would be impossible for a title to have both the birth year in the database, and the check box show up... these two things contradict how I thought the system worked...

is it possible when they changed the rules, instead of removing all unneeded birth years, they instead left them, but marked them as unacceptable to the contribution system... this would explain why when Gerri removed the Scott Rudin ok status, they birth year still remained in the titles that had it originally?

I am now going over my database looking for things, and so far i've found the following actors and crew that show up with birth years in my local as well as the master, who are on the "not approved" list:

Alun Armstrong (1946) - Married with Children Season Six R1USA
Jason Mewes (1974) - Clerks X (not in my local, but found while investigation title for other actors) *
Scott Schiaffo (1963) - Clerks X *
Marilyn Ghigliotti (1961) - Clerks X *
WILL ADD MORE AS I FIND IN THIS SPACE

As far as I understand it, I believe what Ken & Gerri did, rather than remove any possibly good data from the database, they simply started marking BYs as approved from that date. Earlier BYs are still in the database but not approved as no one else has submitted a BY for that person since then.
That's why you can have a BY in the online database but still need to check the box if you want to submit it.

But Will the Database Pass that data to me if I download the profiles? I think yes... and then will pass to other profiles with that name... it becomes quite the problem
