Quote: Because, as I noted above, if you do like Skip and T!M, and use 'credited as' to track what you believe the actual credit is, downloading the profile does have an adverse effect on your your DB...mainly, erasing your 'credited as' entry.
This is always the case for local data where you want to use different standards than the main DB, though. You just have to lock. Except guess what the basis for the database per the rules IS As Credited, setting a standard for anything does not change that fundamental concept. That is where you, Martian and Tim completely miss the boat. I have no problems with setting a standard entry, like the caps thing, as long as somewhere we also have access to information which tells what AS CREDITED/CREDITED AS is. It seems the most likely place for that to happen is through the notes. I have not aseen anything here through any standards or in the Rules which changes "li st names exactly as they are in the credits. Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead." Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

No doubt, but you said, "downloading the profile doesn't actually affect anything in your DB, so why worry about it?" I simply explained that it does and that is why they worry about it. In addition, while I believe they went off the reservation on this, entering and uploading data this way was allowed and accepted. They entered their data expecting it would always be that way because, to them, it made sense. The standard has now changed, for the better in my opinion, so I can see why they would have some discomfort. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I'll try and sum it up once more: as far as capitalisation issues are concerned, the online database is now officially a free-for-all: everyone can simply enter whatever they want, regardless of what's seen on the screen. Those that somehow want to retain the actual capitalisation as seen in the credits, are now completely on their own. As it stands, the only thing left for those users is to personally audit *all* cast/crew data, and never accept a single cast/crew update ever again. As stated earlier, I'm personally fine with this "system change", but I can understand that for certain users, the basic message of "you won't be able to accept cast/crew updates anymore" can be a little hard to swallow. |

The Rules have not changed in any form, and the standards which have been added, which I don't have a problem, can potentially cause a problem with any users local who follows the Rules strictly. Tim, I don't care. There IS an issue, it is an easy issue to fix, I can understand your discomfort, you are the king of bad Contribution Notes. God forbid you actually start creating notes which are really useful. This thing which ken has created opens a whole raft of issues and it is for him to answer, not you, unless you have become a proxy. Which I have not seen declared. Since you are determined to destroy the online or build it in YOUR image without regard to ANYONE else. I will freely expres my opinion on it as Ken has permitted me to do. I have a lot of personal tweaks to my system, just as Martian and others do, but my baseline is the Rules. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

If you are really concerned about getting me to vote yes, you know how to do it. It takes far less energy than you expend defending your sloppy notes and failure to provide adequate doc. Let me make it real easy for you just copy and paste. As Credited de Banzie. What could be simpler? Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | I would have hoped this thread could have been a productive one as the subject reads, but I see it has turned into yet another useless discussion... Me gets tired of this... Edit: Sorry - I see a Forum Moderator has posted as I was writing this post, so.... | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | Patiently waiting for Ken to address my concerns.
Just in case you are lost, ken. I will revisit them for you.
According to your comment de Banzie=De Banzie to the CLT. That's fine. Question becomes many fold first what is going to show up on an update and how will that impact me locally. I may have De Banzie locally since I can only have ONE, but a credit reads de Banzie, so I list it locally as De Banzie (de Banzie), what is the impact upon that data. Third, in the instant case, the user is changing the data which reads De Banzie (de Banzie) to de Banzie without any sort of reference to the why he is apparently not following the existing CLT of De Banzie, should he not also simply add As Credited de Banzie, it sems to me that this would be useful to all users. particularly users such as me which are tracking Credited As/As Credited per the Rules. I don't want an update to wind up corrupting my local data due to a flaw in the system or because a user does not add informative data to his notes. As I have said the Online should serve ALL users, not SOME, not MOST or the Majority but ALL. I have a concern which goes directly to issue of useability and functionality for ME. Can you also not make these changes globally in the Online without seeing umpteen Contributions for minutiae.
This is not about attacking anyone. It is simply about me trying to figure concerns that I have for my local data and what I can expect to see in terms of these updates and their impact.

Could you tell us what contribution this is as I am no longer sure what the issue is. Thanks T!M. Based on everything Ken has posted, that seems like a valid change. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
