To be honest.... while I did still enjoy it... season 8 wasn't a favorite season of mine. It took way too long for me to get used to the new characters. By the time I did get used to them... the series was over.

Season 5 in 5 minutes

My Thoughts:

Last night I finished the 5th season of That '70s Show. I am now in the episodes I never seen before. So that adds a little something for me.... seeing the episodes for the first time. I am still enjoying the series quite a bit. There was quite a few laugh out loud moments through-out the season.  There is also a nice selection of recognizable guest stars. This season we get to see...

- Jessica Simpson
- Tom Poston
- Betty White
- Jamie Farr
- Bobcat Godthwait
- Seth Green
- Fred Willard

Of all these guest stars... I enjoyed the appearances of Betty White the most. I really got a kick out of her character. I also liked that this set has the episodes preview of all 24 episodes that you can watch before the episodes. The set also has a few featurettes. Not bad for extras but I would have liked to seen a few more things added as well. Maybe a commentary or two... a gag reel... stuff like that. But over-all I am happy with the release.

Extras:

My Thoughts:

I was feeling a little nostalgic last night... so I popped in the first disc of Plastic Man. It is the latest addition I made to my collection of childhood favorites. Going into it I was a little nervous about how well it would hold up almost 35 years later. While it didn't hold up as well as I would have liked it to... I was still able to enjoy it somewhat for what it is. A superhero show that is nothing more then mindless and silly. Not something I feel comfortable recommending... especially to new viewers over the age of 5 or 6. This is a show I had fond memories of over the years. And while I am not sorry I added it to my collection... I do wish it held up better. This is a set I will watch a few episodes of now and then. Not a set that I will anxious to finish watching.

Title: The Facts of Life: The Complete First and Second Seasons
Year: 1979
Rating: NR
Length: 707 Min.
Video: Full Frame 1.33:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Charlotte Rae as Mrs. Edna Garrett
Lisa Whelchel as Blair
Kim Fields as Tootie
Mindy Cohn as Natalie
Nancy McKeon as Jo

Plot:
A spin-off of the tremendously popular "Diff'rent Strokes," THE FACTS OF LIFE is the hilarious series that follows housemother Mrs. Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae) and her mission to instill values in the girls of Eastland School. The large first season cast included John Lawlor, Jenny O'Hara, Lisa Whelchel, Felice Schachter, Julie Piekarski, Kim Fields, Molly Ringwald, Julie Anne Haddock and Mindy Cohn. By the second season, the show focused on Mrs. Garrett and just four Eastland girls - spoiled Blair, gossipy Tootie, wise-cracking Natalie, and newcomer to the group, rebellious Jo (Nancy McKeon). Under Mrs. Garrett's guidance, these four go from wide-eyed school girls to mature young women ... all while learning THE FACTS OF LIFE! Guest stars include the cast of "Diff'rent Strokes," Helen Hunt and Richard Dean Anderson of TV's "MacGyver."

Extras:
Bonus Trailers
Featurettes
Closed Captioned

My Thoughts:

I just finished watching the first two seasons of this classic sitcom. One of my favorites. I always liked the entire cast. Many of the episodes of The Facts of Life deals with some pretty big issues... especially for the time ('79-'88). Starting with the very first episode. While they never say the word they are obviously showing that one of the girls under Mrs. Garrett's care is concerned she is a lesbian. Some of the other issues the episodes in this set covers includes cheating, crash diets, sex, adoption, divorce, drugs, the handicap, shoplifting and suicide. These first two seasons are rather short at 13 episodes each. Which I am sure is the reason they put the first 2 seasons together in one set. I really enjoyed revisiting these episodes... and I am now going to start season 3.

Call the Midwife is not my usual TV series fare or purchase, and I bypassed it when first saw it offered on DVD. But with it's rave reviews and bypassing Downton Abbey, which I enjoyed, I decided to give it a look. And I'm glad I did. I watched all six episodes of the first season, one after the other breaking only for a snack and coffee. I was totally hooked.  It is about an occupation most and myself are not familiar at least in this age and area. I certainty will be on the watch for more episodes. In IMHO it will be a classic.

From the the overview:
Call the Midwife is a moving, intimate, funny and, above all, true-to-life look at the exhilarating stories of a midwife in poverty-stricken East London in the late 1950s, based on Jennifer Worth's best-selling memoirs.

(Jennifer Worth (1935-2011) died just before the start of its filming)

Jenny Lee knows nothing about hardship, poverty, or, indeed, life itself. Direct from nursing school, Jenny joins an order of nursing nuns at Nonnatus House and a team of midwives providing the poorest women in London with the best possible care. The life that greets Jenny is a world away from what she's used to. The streets teem with children - families of between six and ten children are commonplace - and with just one eight-bed maternity ward to serve the whole district, most deliveries take place at home. The drama follows Jenny as she meets her patients for the first time - women like Conchita, who is on her 25th pregnancy, and Mary, a prostitute, pregnant and just 15 years old - all while hiding her own secret past.

Call the Midwife is a fascinating portrayal of birth, life, and death in a community on the brink of huge social change, offering a gripping insight into a world that is so drastically different from how we live now.

Call The Midwife: Season One, UPC: 883929269815;
Six untitled episodes,
Region 1,
Aspect ratio 16:9 enhanced,
Total running time: 354 minutes,
Sound track: Stereo,
Subtitles: English SDH.

The story, writing, cast ,crew and production are top notch.

Main cast
Vanessa Redgrave: Voice of Mature Jenny (voice, provides the narration)
Jessica Raine: Jenny Lee
Pam Ferris: Sister Evangelina
Judy Parfitt: Sister Monica Joan
Jenny Agutter: Sister Julienne
Bryony Hannah:  Cynthia Miller
Helen George: Trixie Franklin
Laura Main: Sister Bernadette

Rating 5/5

My Thoughts:

After watching the Halloween episodes last month... and yesterday getting the complete series box set.... I have gotten the urge to watch some Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So between last night and early this morning I watched the first disc of the set. It was of no surprise to find that the discs are the same thing we got in the separate season sets... just repackaged into a complete series box. I found I am enjoying revisiting this series... so plan on watching more as I can through-out the next days/weeks. I am not sure if I will re-watch the entire series again... but I will enjoy it till I decide to move on to something else. Depends on how much I get into the series again.

On this first disc we have the first 4 episodes ever made. My favorite on this disc would have to be the two part pilot episodes... Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest. I thought the episodes set up the series great and left me wanting more. My least favorite would have to be Teacher's Pet. Not that it is a bad episode... but one had to be my least favorite of the disc... and compared to the other three... this one was lacking just a little.

I have been on a real Buffy the Vampire Slayer kick right now... As I type this I am watching the season 4 finale. A very weird episode indeed! And looking forward to starting season 5 next. In the season 5 we premiere we have Buffy and the gang going up against the most famous vampire of all... Dracula. Plus season 5 introduces the character Dawn as well.

Stars:
Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers
Nicholas Brendon as Xander Harris
Alyson Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg
Anthony Stewart Head as Giles
Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia Chase
David Boreanaz as Angel
Seth Green as Oz
Emma Caulfield as Anya
Amber Benson as Tara
Michelle Trachtenberg as Dawn Summers
James Marsters as Spike

My Thoughts:

The Show:
Earlier this month a friend gave me this complete series set... replacing my original release (digipak) season sets. This was perfect timing as I really got in the mood to watch this series again when I watched the Halloween episodes last month. So getting this set was the perfect excuse to watch the series again... after all... I had to make sure all the discs worked right? It has been 5 years since I last re-watched the entire series. And I must say... I really enjoyed every minute of revisiting the series. While i enjoyed this series from start to end... my favorite season has to be the second when we had Evil Angel as the "Big Bad" for the season. My least favorite season has to be season 4.... where Buffy starts college... they add in the Initiative and Adam was the "Big Bad". The only good thing to come out of this season was the introduction of Tara. I remember at the time there was many people that had a problem with the final season where we meet a bunch of the "Potential Slayers" and The First is the final "Big Bad" of the series. At the time I was concerned as well... but as it turned out I enjoyed the season quite a bit... and thought the finale was a very good ending to the series. With that said I would love to see a Reunion Movie air to catch us up on the surviving characters of the series. Sure... we got a season 8 comics... which I have the motion comics DVD of... but I would still love to see more. Preferably with the original cast if possible.

The Packaging:
I wanted to say a little something about the packaging here as well. I like it much better then the original bulky digipaks I had. But it still could have been better. The packaging for this is the 7 re-release keep cases inside a box with a slip cover over it. Which you would think would save a lot of shelf space... but because of an odd choice on how the keep cases are housed it saves very little... if any shelf space. Another downer for this release is that it does not include the extra bonus DVD that the "Chosen Collection" came with.

Final Thoughts:
Over-all it has been a fun two to three weeks revisiting this series. I am thrilled to have upgraded to this complete series set as I really don't care for the digipaks the original season sets were released in. Even though they are the same discs, I do like this packaging better.

Stars:
Billy Gardell as Mike Biggs
Melissa McCarthy as Molly Flynn
Reno Wilson as Carl McMillan
Katy Mixon as Victoria Flynn
Nyambi Nyambi as Samuel

My Thoughts:

I just finished this first disc of the first season. I have been a fan of this series since the pilot originally aired. It is a lot of fun.. has many laugh out loud moments. The show has a good cast... I like both Mike and Molly a lot... but I must admit that Molly's sister Victoria is always good for some laughs. Really most of the characters on this show is good for some laughs. Well I never cared much for Vince (Joyce's boyfriend)... but he hasn't showed up yet. Sure he will at some point on the next disc. anyway... if you never seen this show before... it is one I would recommend checking out.

Peter Gunn: The Complete Series, UPC 011301650764

From the overview:
Before Miami Vice, before Law and Order, the coolest and most sophisticated TV detective was definitely Peter Gunn, created and produced by Blake Edwards (The Pink Panther, SOB).

Set in a nameless waterfront city, the series features stylish film noir cinematography and a stylish musical score written by Henry Mancini, whose "The Peter Gunn Theme" won an Emmy Award and two Grammys® . In fact. Peter Gunn was the first TV show featuring modern jazz for a soundtrack. Edwards himself directed many episodes, as did an impressive roster of Hollywood's best TV directors, including Robert Altman.

Craig Stevens plays Gunn, Pete to his friends, a handsome, suave detective tough enough to take on the hardest of hard cases. but has a soft touch when it comes to the ladies. His girlfriend, the gorgeous singer Edie Hart (Lola Albright) is the featured singer at 'Mothers', a smoke-filled jazz club used by Gunn as his unofficial office. Other regulars at the club include a colorful cast of musicians, pool hustlers, artists and a sculptor. His standard fee is $1,000.00, and his reputation keeps the customers lined up for his services, sometimes referred by Mother (Hope Emerson, Season One; Minerva Urecal, Seasons Two and Three), or his police buddy Lt. Jacoby (Herschel Bernardi). A man with expensive tastes, Peter Gunn drives a stylish two-tone Plymouth Fury Convertible, equipped with a mobile phone!”

I did not see the show when it first aired 1958-1961, as I was in Germany courtesy of the USAF. But as a fan of Mancini's music I had heard the Peter Gunn theme., so when one of TV Retro stations started airing it late at night, about 1AM, I started watching it and immediately became a fan. Peter Gunn fits right in with two of my favorite genres, film noir and crime drama, as it is shot mostly at night and generally starts out with some sort of crime. An it has some the best music of any TV show with a number of great jazz musicians and singers and dancers as guests a playing not only in the background of a club but many times playing a character in an episode. Of course Pete's main squeeze the beautiful Edie Hart (Lola Albright), 84 episodes, who sings as good as she looks often sings s a complete ballad. If piano player, Bill Chadney, 41 episodes, in the jazz trio that plays at Mothers seems a little friendly with Lola and concerned when Gunn and Edie are kissing, he married her. The bartender at Mothers, Byron Kane, was also a associate producer (96 episodes).

Peter Gunn ran for three seasons (1958-1961), first ran on NBC then on ABC.

I first bought A&E's 2 sets of 18 episodes each, hoping the complete set would become available.

This is the Timeless - Peter Gunn: The Complete Series, UPC 011301650764, SRP $99.99.
Each season has 38 episodes, 16 hours on 4 DVDs and have their own keep case and UPC number and are inclosed in a slip case for total 12 discs of 48 hours, 10 minutes with a CD copy of RCA's recording of Henry Mancini's music from the series.

Sound mono, Black & white. The thought the sound, (the music is a little louder than the dialog), and picture was very good for over 50 years ago.

One of my favorites. I had no trouble watching he whole series even though I'd just been watching it on TV for a few months piror.

5/5

Hayden Rorke as Dr. Bellows
Philip Ober as General Stone

My Thoughts:

I finished off the first disc of the complete series set I got today. This is a series I always enjoyed watching in my childhood... but I haven't watched the series in years. This series aired at the same time as the similar series Bewitched... so obviously most people compare the two series. While I personally liked both series... I personally preferred Bewitched over this. Though this is nothing more then great entertainment that is a lot of fun to watch as well. And I think most guys would agree... Barbara Eden looked wonderful in this series. The one drawback to this complete series set I have is that instead of giving us season 1 of the original B&W they opted to give us the colorized version instead. This surprised me... I would think the majority of people willing to buy the entire series at one time like this would be true fans of the show... and would prefer the original B&W episodes. One of my favorite things about this show is how they play with Dr. Bellows... driving him completely crazy.

Another thing I noticed is that there is 3 different openings of this series. The original opening that was little more then a recap of the first episode.... the first animated opening with Jeannie... and then starting in the second season the second and most well known animated opening with both Jeannie and Major Nelson. surprisingly after 8 episodes into the season we are still seeing the original recap opening. I would have thought by now that i would have gotten to the first animated opening. Another thing I thought I would have seen by now is Tony's friend Roger finding out about Jeannie. I thought that happened very early into the first season... I know it is the first season... but guess it was closer to the middle or end of the season.

Anyway... I really enjoyed watching the first disc of this set... and can't wait to continue revisiting the entire series again. Definitely a classic sitcom... recommended!

So, i got this on Friday, and decide to check it out right away. This is a tv-show that has gotten only perfect reviews in Scandinavia. And everyone i've talked to has only great things to say about it. So i have to say that i had high epxpactations for this tv-show. And it started of brand hot right of the bat. And it kinda just stayed there trough out the whole series. What i am impressed with is, what they have been able to do, with one case in 20 episodes. And its suspence from the 10th minute out in the first episode, and its suspence to the bitter end. And they got a few twists in every episode, and personally i had a few ideas who did what, and who didnt do what. But i was wrong, all of the times. And when you find out the answers of everything. You'll be shocked. This is a tv-show, i'm really glad i checked out! A really good Danish tv-show! A good mix between drama and suspence! A tv-show they highly recommand you guys to check out! And i've borrowed the season 2, hopefully i'll start on that tomorrow or something! Looking forward to check that out too. If that is as good as this.

Sofie Gråbøl

Plot:

My Thoughts:
So, i was able to borrow season 2 of "Forbrytelsen" and with how things ended in the first season i was real looking forward to check this one out. And it starts out right of the bat (ofc) This season is a bit different then the first one, a very very different case. And Sarah Lund (the lead detective) is very changed aswell. And i have to say that i really liked what they have done with both the case this time around aswell, and with whats happening in the series aswell. And yet again, with all the twists and turns, and didnt have a clue really on what was really going on before the last episode (again!) wich is a good thing IMO. A great series, a great season 2 with a very interesting story aswell. With great character developement aswell. And i have to say great job really well done. And with how things ended in this season, i cant wait to see what they have in store for us in season 3! Again highly recommanded tv-show to check out!

My Thoughts:

I finally finished off the first disc of this set. I been watching this series slowly. Watching an episode here and there. Mainly because my brother wanted to watch it with me... and he can't watch the show as often as I can. Watching this disc is the first I ever seen any of this series. It is completely new to me. So far I must say I am enjoying this show very much. It reminds me a lot of The Twilight Zone... I wouldn't say it is as good as The Twilight Zone... but it is definitely pretty close. If you are like me... and don't really know of this series... I would say to give it a shot. I don't think you will be disappointed.

My Thoughts:

I just finished watching the entire first season of this show with Brittany. I have seen this show a few times before... though not in several years. But it is the first time Britt has seen it. We both enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a lot of fun. A lot of entertaining dark humor. We have fun guessing on how some of the deaths would occur.  As I type this we have already started the second season. Brittany really likes the gravelings.... she said they are like cute little puppy-dogs of death. If by chance this is a show you never seen before both Britt and I would recommend this one.
