Just to make sure everyone knows there is a brand new Network release of this which is well worth buying. None to add myself (I'm a bit tired...) but District B13 as mentioned by schultzy is very good... not brillaint, certainly but enjoyable, clever and tense in equal measure which sounds like a pretty good combo! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

I don't know, I suppose, whatever everyone feels is best. However, I think it should be uniform whatever we decide. Yeah definitely. Sorry I over-read it in your original post "In order to make this managable in the editing department, please post in the following format:..." I'll edit all my Posts and put the original title in brackets then... thats the way I like to have them listed at home as well. | | | - Life is just a form of animated death. |

correct me if im wrong, but isn't this canadian?
Yes it is. Released in 2001, written by Karen Walton and John Fawcett, directed by Fawcett, filmed in Ontario. Whoops! I was mixed up with something else that I can't think of at all now. In the meantime, I think Canada should get an entry... I also put Infernal Affairs under Korea didn't I? Just to make sure everyone knows there is a brand new Network release of this which is well worth buying. Thank you for that pointer, Voltaire. That looks like a really good edition. Time for an upgrade, I think. | | | Jon "When Mister Safety Catch Is Not On, Mister Crossbow Is Not Your Friend."

| Posted: | | | | I'm surprised that few of my favorite HK movies are not on the list.
Fa yeung nin wa (In the Mood for Love) - My favorite and best Wong Kar Wai movie IMO Xiao ao jiang hu zhi dong fang bu bai (Swordsman II) - Movie that made Brigitte Lin a household name in Asia Ying xiong (Hero) - Beautifully shot and choreographed. I can't wait for this to come out in high def one day Sha po lang (SPL) - Best realistic martial arts combat ever captured in film, enough said! Ying hung boon sik (A Better Tomorrow) - John Woo and Chow Yun-fat classic and film that started a whole new genre of HK gangster film
and finally
Dip hyut shueng hung (The Killer) - Best John Woo and Chow Yun-fat film!!! | | | My Home Theater | | | Last edited: by xradman |

| Posted: | | | | Hi,
The Netherlands:
Three from Alex van Warmerdam, available from Home Vision Entertainment:
De Jurk (The Dress) Grimm Kleine Teun (Little Tony)
Three from Fons Rademakers, died recently:
Dorp aan de rivier (nominated in 1960 for Oscar, best foreign film) De Aanslag (The Assault, still available in USA on VHS) and winner of an Oscar and Golden Globe for best foreign film in 1987 Als twee druppels water
Mike van Diem: Karakter (Character), won Oscar for best foreign film in 1998
Bert Haanstra:
Fanfare Glas (won Oscar for best documentary in 1958) Alleman (Oscar nominated for best documentary in 1963)
Second box of Documentaries by Johan van der Keuken is also out in the USA (Facets Video). Made preliminary profiles of both.
Last but not least, probably the best known "Dutch" film, directed by Joris Ivens: "The Spanish Earth", written by Hemingway and Dos Passos and narrated by Orson Welles
Belgium:
One from Dominique Deruddere, available in the USA from Mondo Macabro: Crazy Love. He also directed in the USA "Wait Until Spring Bandini"
Three from Harry Harrie Kümel:
Les Lèvres rouges (Daughters of Darkness, available from Blue Underground in a two disc edition
Malpertuis Monsieur Hawarden
There's lots more to come from Belgium, I guess.
Would be nice if the directors would be mentioned :-)
Cheers,
