Has anyone seen an HD DVD or Blu-ray "cover" without the top banner anywhere on the internet or in print advertising? Anywhere? With all due respect, this is not the "internet" and it is not "print advertising". It is DVD Profiler. The banner is part of the case, it is not part of the cover art. The cover art is what I personally am interested in. If we wanted a picture of the case, then we'd have to take a picture of the full keep case, or snapper case including the hinges. I want the cover art. If distinguishing between SDVD and HDDVD in the on-line or Mobile is the issue, then a Feature Request should be generated to address that specific problem, instead of using the image feature to solve it. We could just as easily say that we no longer need "Widescreen" in the Edition field because it is already in the front cover image! | | | Hal |

Now there's an idea.....if the HD DVD box is checked, the banner is automatically generated above the cover scan. Ken, hop to it! But I think they look lousy without the banner. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

By my reckoning this has been discussed at least 4 separate times in the past year, With the end result being to use the banner. I am saying it is done, over with. I don't agree with using Widescreen Collection on EVERY title just because it's there, we have a specific section of the program that deals with THAT specific information for every title. Should I bring it up every 6 months to try and get the result that I want. Or should just swallow hard and go with the flow. I choose to swallow hard, what would be served to do otherwise, if I kept polling to try to get my way and finally won, then YOU would have to go back and undo your work, if you wished to Contribute. I don't believe in moving the field goal once they are set, it only discourages people from contributing, this poll says to use the banner, the next one says not to and so on...where does it end. When you get the result you want...but what about the user on the other side, if you have the right to move the goal pst does he not have an equal right to do so. So we have nothing more than a musch more difficult game of ping-pong, as in the old days, only this time its based on votes.
Do you understand my point.
Skip
The goal post gets set in place when the Rules address the situation!
Til then, it's an open question. I understand what you are saying, Hal, however hundreds of Contributions have been made following the Convention. I do not take that lightly, indeed I believe we send a very bad message to those users that have been followed that convention by changing direction now. I t could very easily wind up discouraging users from contributing. This doesn't even address the technical issues that have been brought up re: Pocket Profiler or anything else. Nor does it address the fact that KEN is using banners. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Thank you for making my point, Hal at what point does this foolishness end. If you even think about , while I still disagree, the amount of wasted work is staggering not just for me. I would be forced to send the keyboard zapper to you. Don't EVEN think about it. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

A full custom case - keep case - snapper case including hinges is sarcasm at its best. Paul |

Skip Perhaps you missed my point. We do not rely on the cover image for the "Widescreen" information. We still put it in the Edition field (even though I hate it). Similarly, we should not rely on the cover image for the Blu-ray or HD DVD information. We should be submitting a Feature Request to address this requirement. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | No I haven't. Some would say differentiating DVDP from everyone else is a good thing (like changing rolenames so they don't match IMDb)..
I stick by my belief that the banner is not part of the "cover art" it is part of the case and nothing more than a marketing gimmick that I don't believe adds a a thing to the database. | | | Hal |

And no other person, except those in the know, that viewed the HD profile on-line, would recognize at a glance that it wasn't a regular DVD. Paul | | | Last edited: by Paul Hillenbrand |

I don't buy that argument either. As if changing "Dr. Smith" to "Doctor Smith" is going to throw off the IMDb legal eagles. It's what I see when I hold them in my hand. Isn't that the argument we've alwasy used for why we scan slip covers? There's a reason why HD DVDs are in red cases and Blu-rays are in blue cases. It makes for ease of use in differentiation at a glance. Put some in your db...especially in your PDA...and I think the banner will prove helpful. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | My first remark about differentiating was made somewhat tongue in cheek. I guess I'm just not that concerned about it. I know which of my DVDs are hi-def. I don't need a banner in DVDP to tell me. And it is not important to me that others viewing my on-line collection know which are hi-def. I'm not loaning them out under any circumstances!!!! | | | Hal |

Or slavishly using "as credited" without a proper linking system so the database is completely worthless. Yep, good differentiation there, you bet. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |
