Why is this being so over-complicated?

Case type has nothing to do with the profile type.

A single digipak or keep case with however many discs = digipak or keep case respectively, even if it has some form of slip cover
A box or slip cover with more than 1 keep case or digipak = box set.

Simple, or am I missing something.

OK, I did not read the last 4+ pages but what are you people still arguing about? The images are clear. All you have to do, for the main db, is follow them. What you do in your local is your business.

No, you do not miss anything. But sadly not everyone sees it this way. Even though we all have practiced it this way for years.

FYI: I just posted two polls just because I was curious what others would use.
Rifter definitely seems to be totally in the minority so far. Poll 1 : 1/9 agrees with him. Poll 2 : 0/8 agree.
But I'll wait a bit longer since 9 votes are not really representative yet.

Polls are not going to help you prove or disprove your case.  When it comes right down to it we have contribution rules to follow when it comes to the online DB.  Dan has been tasked with defining how we handle the various case types and has stated how to handle them.

Like alot of us have said there are various rules that we may or may not agree with but, when it comes to contributing to the online DB we should follow them by the rules set forth. And then do whatever we want with our personal DB.

Hmmm, according to the official Digipak website a Digipak® is indeed defined as "a multi-disc package that permits a vast range of configurations".

I think we should not read to much in that multi-disc statement. It says "permits a vast range of configurations".
Also this company is the inventor of digipaks which they first used for single CD releases for record labels.
See this Wiki-article. It says "Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside."

Do you know why they invented a digipack?  At least for the single tray model, its cheaper to produce than a keep case and the artwork insert.  But then, they lost whatever they saved because they had to put it in some kind of slipcover or sleeve to keep it closed.  Total wash.  Personally, I think digipacks are a pain in the ass and should be discontinued altogether. Slimline keep cases offer better protection, don't cost any more, and don't wear out or get damaged as easily.

My point is not being right or wrong with how we profile them.
My point is that the rules regarding casetype are absolutely not clear (and if they are the Dan-rules, they are also not very logical). It annoys me a lot that Dan and Skip do as if it is all so very simple. Then they must think the majority of contributors are idiots for not choosing the correct casetype, since only 25% of the voters have it 'right' !

I'm sure the folks at Digipak would disagree with you.

I'd disagree! What the hell is Rifter doing with his digipaks that they wear out and get damaged?

The Online Database now shows 'Box Set' as 'Slip Case'

Check your online collection.
