Here is the situation.

I do a new profile for something not yet in the database. I contribute it and a day or so later it gets approved.
When I do a Refresh Updated Profiles thing I always compare the differences and on the ones that I contributed the images are highlighted as being updated. I make sure that the boxes are checked for both front and back and even uncheck the Locked box.
I then check OK and when I'm done I click OK to do the refresh and when I look at the window the majority of the images are being skipped.

I have to then go back to each profile and delete the images and then refresh the images for each profile that was skipped.

There are good reasons for this feature request, but this *could* get dangerously close to spoiling.

I.e.: A character is credited in season one for all episodes but you see the "credit only" after his name for the last three episodes... Guess who died!

Sure, most times you know the movies or tv series before looking at the cast, but sometimes not, and I think such possible spoilers should be avoided.

At least this feature, if implented, should go hand in hand with an option inside DVD Profiler AND the website (where you can evaluate contributions) to NOT show these things. At the best, the "show "credit only" info" should be an opt-in.

Aren't Uncredited Cast sometimes a spoiler.
Perhaps a big cross-over from another series or a major star appears in a cameo.
Perhaps someone big appears only in a post end credit sequence, something like in the Marvel films.

We allow those without being hidden or opted in, so I so no real need to do the same for Credit Only.

We have
7 options for Writing, 2 for Production, 3 for Music and 6 for Sound, yet these really technical credits get a single blanket credit to cover a wide variation of credits.

I would really like to see a checkbox for the crew section added for the following categories.

Make-up Artist
Visual Effects
Perhaps even Make-up Effects

For Make-up Artist I'd like to see the following checkbox's added.
Key Make-up Artist
Make-up Artist for (). (where the () is I'd like to see a field where one can enter the actors name they are credited with doing make-up for.
Such as Make-up Artist for Tom Cruise.

I'm sure that I'm missing many more Make-up Artist credit variations.

For Visual Effects:
Visual Effects Supervisor
Special Effects Supervisor
Above two would be entered for abbreviated terms such as VFX Supervisor or the like.
Digital Effects Supervisor

I've seen many time where both a Visual Effects and Special Effects Supervisor are credited right after another and I can't tell one from another.
Sure I could do a custom entry, but these are overwritten by any profile update. No way to have the program ignore custom fields. And for those that don't use or own the particular thing they have no way of knowing which one the person did, Special or Visual Effects.

On a related note, I'd like to see Computer Graphics Supervisor added too to the Visual Effects section.
I think that these are also called CG Supervisors.
We allow Digital Effects Supervisor, so why not this credit.
Especially since today most films/tv shows use Computer Graphics in doing their visual effects.

I'm not that much into Make-up Effects, so perhaps someone can chime in with what pulldown options they'd like to see for the credit. Perhaps something like Prosthetic Make-up.

No idea, but you could try the following.

Toolbar> Tools> Options> Online

Try the Test Internet Connection.

You could also try by checking the 'Alternate Connection Method' and see if that helps.

Also check your firewall settings to allow DVDProfiler.

It appears that this is confusing, as some think it means that if an actor's scenes were deleted from the film/tv series then we can also not include them in the profile itself.

Some may think it means that because that's exactly what it says.

---------------

Which means that it's badly written.

Going by that wording that means that we can go into tv series profiles and delete cast members from the cast even if they are credited in the opening credits.

Again, I think the intent was to be that if an actor appears in deleted scenes in the special features and DOESN'T appear at all in the program or credited in the actual credits that we don't list them.

No.

We don't list stunt personel.

Why?  If we can document uncredited extras I don't know why we should specifically have to exclude stunt people seen onscreen.

---------------

Ditto.

I fail to see the logic in not allowing them at all.
They appear onscreen, they aren't crew in my opinion.

Besides, if one looks at the stunt people, many of them are also actors.
So in a way, by not including their stunt work we are not having a complete database or even an accurate one.

I've seen many stunt people contributed over the years.

On a related note, some don't want to credit stunt people, but I have seen Helicopter Pilots be credited in the cast.

They're listed in the cast section, but did they actually play a Helicopter Pilot or actually were a Helicopter Pilot for the film crew? We can't know for sure just by going by the cast.

In the Blue Thunder profile there is a cast member named Kevin P Donnelly credited as Double Pilot.

What in the world is that?
Does that mean that he was a double for a pilot?
Is that allowed?
Is that crew?

Below that is credited Calvin Brown credited as Utility Stuntman.
Why is he listed? Perhaps because he's listed among the cast, right above the last cast member Lucinda Crosby as Bel-Air Woman.

I know that this will just go into a long debate without a decision one way or another. And neither does it answer if Doubles are allowed or not.

And then we have the matter of ADR cast being contributed even though they are listed minutes after the main cast. Same thing with Puppeteers who are also listed way after the main cast.

As a community, if possible, we need to decide what is or isn't cast or crew and what we want to see contributed or not.

Personally I see cast as any person who appears or is heard onscreen. Be it an actor, a double, voice actor, motion capture actor or whatever. As long as they are somehow portraying a character onscreen, I would consider them as cast. Even if that character is unnamed or hardly seen.

I take it to mean that if actors appears in deleted scenes or deleted scenes shown in featurettes that we don't include them, unless they actually appear in other scenes.

Perhaps re-worded as follows.

"Do not list actors and crew who only appear in special features. or when they appear only in deleted scenes."

Yet if I was to do a cast profile with episode dividers and by the rules include the Special Guests as credited it would be impossible to know exactly what episodes they actually do appear in. Each would be listed in ALL of the episodes. So if I wanted to know exactly what episode Penn & Teller were in I would have to get the discs out and scan through each episode just to find out which one they actually appeared in.

I'm not exactly sure that all credited actors need be included in our cast listings.  Take a look at this excerpt from The Rules:
Quote:
Do not list actors and crew who appear only in special features, or whose scenes were deleted from the main feature, even if they appear in special features.

One might use this to deduce that actors, credited or not, who do not appear in the film/episode, should not be listed in our submissions.

However, my preference would be to have a "Credit Only" checkbox and leave them in.

---------------

You're missing the very important part of the rules.

http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/contributions/Rules.aspx?display=credits

Quote:
Crew and Cast
Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits. Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead.

One can deduce that it also applies to the cast.

Quote:
Cast

For the purposes of this section we define "standard" film credits as those where all credited actors involved are listed at the end of the film - defined here as the "end credits". The section details both the actor’s Name and the Role that they played in the film. The credits may be listed "in order of appearance", "alphabetical order" or in an order of importance decided by the filmmakers. Some actors may be credited a second time in either credits at either the opening or close of the film.

Even though it's for film, once can deduce that the cast is to be taken from the credits when they are all listed.

And from the TV Series section of the rules.
Quote:
Enter Cast and Crew for each episode using standard rules, and insert dividers to separate each episode's credit list from the others. Do not list Cast and Crew outside of the dividers even if they are credited in all episodes.

As I understand the rules, we go by the credits themselves and if the credits list actors we credit them regardless if they appear in the episode/film or not.

I checked the CLT and came across Max Charles credited in a 2005 film called Max Charles in Urban Legends: Bloody Mary.

The vast majority of the Max Charles credits belong to an actor born in 2003.
Max Charles

Now I highly doubt a 2 year old could star as a Druggie Musician in a 2005 film.
But I want to make sure that this other Max Charles is not commonly known by another name and thus a birth year wouldn't be needed for the other one.

IMDB doesn't even list this other Max Charles in Urban Legends: Bloody Mary.

I'd say that if they are listed in the cast section, then yes include them.
We do that for Stunt people, so see no reason for not including Doubles.

(on a related note, I'd really like to see Stunt people be officially added to the cast section. Many of them also are actors, just seems odd to not include their stunt credits)

I recently bought Criss Angel: Mindfreak: The Complete Season One.

I have looked at several episodes and in the end credits the following people are listed.

Quote:
Surreal Family
T.G. Tomsoni......Theo
Steve Daly........Ginger
Antonio Hoyos.....Luigi
Josh Thomas.......Erich
Stacey Shea.......Kayala
Ken Romo..........Anteater
Melanie Kramer....Shadow

Special Guests
Amazing Johnathan
Lance Burton
Jonathan Davis
Bill Kurtis
Mandy Moore
Penn & Teller
Rob Zombie

Mindfreak Voice
Tony Jay

There are 15 episodes in this season and after after watching several of them I know that the Special Guests don't appear in all of them.
In fact I doubt that all of them appear in ALL episodes of the season.

Now if there were a Credit Only checkbox for the cast I could easily tell which one they are actually in.

Here's version 0.1.0.0 of CrewEdit 2:

http://doena-soft.de/dvdprofiler/3.5.1/CrewEdit2.zip

It helps you to rip IMDb crew data and insert it into DVD Profiler.

What needs to be done now is to transform/map IMDb crew roles into the ones from DVD Profiler

For example: Fanboys.

The credit there is "Writing credits" -> "screenplay" which has to be mapped to "Writing" -> "Screenwriter"

For this you use the "IMDbToDVDProfilerCrewRoleTransformation.xml" and the above example would look like this:

Quote:
    <CreditType>
      <IMDbCreditType>Writing credits</IMDbCreditType>
      <DVDProfilerCreditType>Writing</DVDProfilerCreditType>
      <CreditSubtypeList>
        <CreditSubtype>
          <IMDbCreditSubtype>screenplay</IMDbCreditSubtype>
          <DVDProfilerCreditSubtype>Screenwriter</DVDProfilerCreditSubtype>
        </CreditSubtype>
      </CreditSubtypeList>
    </CreditType>

All valid DVD Profiler CreditType/CreditSubtypes are shown in the file "AllDVDProfilerCrewRoles.xml"

It would be great, if you could send me your enhanced "IMDbToDVDProfilerCrewRoleTransformation.xml" files.

PS: And remember: IMDb data must not (!) be contributed to the Online Database.

PPS: Cast Edit 2 and other software can be found here: http://doena-soft.de/dvdprofiler/index_en.php

When I try to go to the link in the PPS I get the following error.

Quote:

Is anyone else having issues at the moment with Cast/Crew Edit 2?  Once I perform a search for something and attempt to scan the given page it fails.  Getting the below.

"Incorrect URL!
URL is incorrect! Please use an URL of the form http://www.imdb.com/titles/tt0000000/."

I used the application quite a bit earlier today.  No issues earlier.  Something going on with IMDB.com perhaps?  Thanks in advance.

Yes, it appears that IMDB is adding the secure site thing to the http. Remove the 's' right after that in the Cast/Crew Edit 2 and it works.

Edit: Sorry didn't see your second post.
But at least it confirms that it's not just you.

I have a question.

When doing Get Headshots and if I paste the cast or crew into the profile, does it overwrite existing headshots I already have in my local database or does it keep existing headshots intact?

If you do "Get Headshots" it will compare the existing file with the one from IMDb and if they are different will get the new one and overwrite the existing one. There is no setting yet to prevent this.

So Locking the local headshot will protect them from being overwritten, correct?

Lots of times I edit profiles and then I update the profiles from the online later and I just forget that I edited it a few hours or days before and overwrite what I did.

I think it would be a good idea that when doing a refresh that on profiles that I had edited recently that it's highlighted to let me know that I had edited that specific profile.

Even better would be some sort of log that I could look up, that's linked to a specific profile, to let me know what I edited specifically so that I am informed of what I did and how it compares to the update.

And locking doesn't really help because one can simply forget what they did and on a big cast/crew section it's almost impossible to remember what one did and if there are numerous updates in those section and all I did was edit one or two of them I can easily unlock it and overwrite what I did by accepting the update.

I'd like to have the ability to copy and then paste into the Filter tab section.
In the fields where you can type in words to search for, when you right click in it a pop-up window comes up about Viewing Tabs or Clearing All Filters.

So I would like to have where you can paste in a search word into a field.

For example, let's say that I was doing a cast section and I see a name I want to search for. I could then copy that name, then click on the filter tab and go to the cast section and paste that right into the search area.
Right now I have to type in the name.

Let's say that I'm doing a Star Trek: The Next Generation profile and I want to copy ONLY the main cast from one episode into another.

Right now I can click on the episode divider, right click that and copy the cast section and then paste that into another by Paste and Amend Cast. But then I have to delete all the non main cast manually. Which in some tv episodes can by a lot.

I would like to have some way that one can select the main cast of an episode and copying them into another. Perhaps holding down the mouse button and then scrolling down to highlight the main cast and then letting go and then would be highlighted and then copy and paste into another episode.

Could be used in the crew section like for the writing section where created by credits will stay the same for all episodes.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

This wouldn't automatically correct spelling errors.
It would just highlight the errors.

Users can either go back and check it against the cover and correct it if necessary or ignore the possible errors and go through with the contribution as is.
