Just got a new Windows 10 PC. Several Disc IDs appeared wrong. Checked by running them through the aformentioned AnyDVD and, indeed, it corrects it.

I thought it was exactly the other way around? That the disc ID *without* AnyDVD running is the proper, "real" one, and the Disc ID's read while AnyDVD is running should not be contributed into the database.

I always have AnyDVD disabled when creating and contributing new profiles.

This.

Yes. This is the way it SHOULD be. But when experiencing the problem with Windows 10, running AnyDVD seems to fix it!

Never mind.Turns out the firewall said it was letting DVD Profiler through, but it wasn't.

Sharing was working fine on the old Windows 7 computer.

Is there an obvious reason for this that I am missing?

Sharing on 192.168.0.2 via Port 32847 on both devices and nothing.

A quick Google search suggests that this barcode has been used for multiple DVDs and not just the two currently in our database.

You'll have to create a third entry for this new DVD under the same barcode.

The Edition is 'Two-Disc Ultimate Edition'.

Whether Dragon Dynasty should be included there, I'm not so certain.
Isn't Dragon Dynasty the Media Company?

I recently bought an external Blu-ray writer (Pioneer BDR-XD05TB) to grab Disc IDs for DVD Profiler.
For this reason, it is perfect. However, it now comes to my attention that I CAN'T actually play Blu-rays on it as the monitor and computer I am using it on are slightly old models and are not HDMI compatible.

I feel like I've gone back to the '80s where you'd buy a VHS film and couldn't watch it because the Macrovision interfered with your television and messed up the picture.

Surely, there's a way round this? Otherwise I have to buy a new computer AND a new monitor just to use this external device fully.

The software supplied with the device works fine and so I'm running PowerDVD 12, if that helps.

Thanks in advance,
Neil

That worked fine. Thanks.

For some reason I remember it being a bit more tricky.

I think, in this case, we should ignore the 7 as a stylistic choice or logo.
All official sources call it 'Seven Days'.

Well, imho, ”suggested by” is a lot weaker than ”based on”, that's why I asked.

I wasn't meaning to offend. It was a valid query worth asking the forum.

There's lots that still aren't covered in the rules and really should be.

Inspired by the books of ...
Originated from the article by ...
From an idea by ...
Original idea by ...

And many others.

I believe these all qualify as 'Based on ... by' or Original Material By.

Is essentially 'Based on a novel by' so Original Material By.

I know I've done this before, but can't remember how to do it.

If I host a picture at Imgur, for example, how do I include the picture in the contribution notes so that it shows up as a picture and not just as a link to it?

Thanks,
Neil

Started a thread. Hopefully we can come to agreement over when to include them and when not to.

This is a thread to establish where we should and should not include company suffixes. They are often part of the company name and, in these cases, shouldn't be removed.

For example, "The Malpaso Company" and "The Mirisch Corporation".

DO INCLUDE
The Malpaso Company
The Mirisch Company/The Mirisch Corporation

DO NOT INCLUDE
Any company name followed by a comma and company suffix.

Any other instances we should include? Please post below.

Should we set up a thread deciding where we should and shouldn't include these suffixes?

It is quite true that saying "The Malpaso" or "The Mirisch" is clearly wrong.

In these, and lots of other cases, Company and Corporation are clearly part of the company name.

Which makes things confusing and, I would have thought, hard to set rules for.

She is also credited as 'Ming-Na Wen' during Season Three of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' - at least she has been, in every episode so far broadcast.

Credited as 'Ming-Na Wen' in all episodes of Agents of Shield up to current date.
So that's...

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Complete Third Season
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Complete Fourth Season
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Complete Fifth Season

ALL Ming-Na Wen.

It looks like it is, legally, a company suffix.

I have been auditing a copy of Small Soldiers and came across the following credit...

Action Figures and Animatronic Design: STAN WINSTON

Is this valid as 'Creature Design' for the purposes of our database?

If the Disc IDs are identical then you need to create new 'alternate' Profiles for those Disc IDs for the new Box Set.

See here - What are Alternate Versions?

Yes. That looks like a UK barcode. Exempt is a UK Rating.
