| Posted: | | | | I've been a long time user of DVD Profiler, but I've been having much more trouble managing my personal database these last few years as so many more titles are coming to my collection from non-DVD sources. Am I somehow missing an option that searches these types of titles for an automatic add?
If it doesn't, and if it isn't a feature that will soon be added, I'm getting to the point of needing to research other software to manage my database because it is too much manual work to keep my database current.
Anyone have any info on this? Thanks. |

This looks more complicated than it is.
Add the DVD by title (assuming it is on disc somewhere and the disc is already in the online database.)After the profile is in your local database, highlight it and select the DVD menu, and the Change UPC/Locality item.Select Manual ID, and the OK button. This profile will no longer be associated with the disc you imported.Open the profile for editing.Under Media Type select the Edit Media Type icon, and add a media type of your choosing. (This only needs to be done once for each media type.)Check the custom media type and uncheck DVD/Bluray/4K/HDDVD as needed.Select the Discs menu and remove any discs in the profile.Select the Features & Formats menu and the Audio & Subtitles menu to make sure they match what you have.Save the changes to the profile. All this only takes about a minute. I have hundreds of profiles added this way. For the (relatively few) movies I have that aren't on disc anywhere (and thus nowhere in the online database) I've had to create the profile from scratch, which is a bit more trouble but no different than someone adding a disc to their database before it's been contributed online.

| Posted: | | | | As it says in my signature, I use DVD Profiler for VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (cassettes and CDs) and video games (disk based and digital), as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. I've just added custom Media Types for these, plus a few tags. It's interesting to be able to do this and see what cast, crew and franchises have crossed over between them.
There're a few fields that in some cases doesn't make sense, but most of these can just be left blank. As you can only keep them in your local database, you can invent your own rules for what and who you do and don't track, without worrying someone will object.
I find it works pretty well and it's quite interesting to profile these other things for a change, as they're a bit different to do compared to doing DVDs and Blu-ray discs all the time. I do tend to profile them from scratch, but as has been suggested it's just as valid to download existing profiles as a starting point and then edit them for your digital copies of films etc. Of course it takes a bit of time, but the profiling process itself can be quite enjoyable and satisfying to do for it's own sake. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for the great comments. Yes, I'm already long familiar with changing discs from other areas, manually creating my own, etc., but it's getting to a point where I'm having to completely make a manual entry for 50% of new titles, which is making it a lot harder to keep up with my entries.
I was just hoping that I was either missing a 'Check box in the Options menu' or didn't know about a coming feature update to cover these non-DVD titles. If Invelos would bring a reasonable Subscription based model along to cover these modern-style releases, I'd certainly consider subscribing.
I really do appreciate each of you for taking the time to reply! |

I use an XML-hack for that, but wouldn't mind if someone were to create an IMDB-scraper for that (hint, hint @ the Plugin-coders ) | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |
