When does a documentary become a bonus feature film, and not just bonus material?

If it's a documentary on the actual movie, then the answer is: never. The contribution rules actually unequivocally state that:

Quote:
Do not confuse "Bonus Feature Films" with "Any video documentary material regarding the film, or those associated with it." Those are Featurettes.

Here's a wrinkle there (beyond the fact that a number of feature length documentaries are up as child profiles already): Starting in the 2000s Troma started doing feature length making of documentaries and including them with the related movie. For example Terror Firmer came with a making of documentary called Farts of Darkness. So in this instance despite being about 90 minutes and on a separate disc, following the rules it would just be a bonus feature.

HOWEVER, Troma subsequently came out with a set called Make Your Own Damn Movie, which was intended to give people an insight into the filmmaking process. For that set, Farts of Darkness and other such making of movies are part of the tutorial, and thus are main features, not bonus features. I think they might even be the same discs with different labels, but due to current computer issues on my end I don't currently have access to DVD Profiler (don't ask; too long of a tangent).

So we have ia situation where the same movies are bonus features in one instance, thus we're not supposed to include child profiles for them, but are main features in another, thus we are supposed to include child profiles.

Have I raised everyone's blood pressure?

I'd lean toward making it a normal release with additional child entries. As far as what the primary entry is, it depends upon how the release is marketed, but I typically lean towards making the theatrical the primary, as that is how it was typically originally released.
