| | Posted: | | | | A personal favorite genre of mine is sports movies; Brian's Song, Rudy, Invincible, Field of Dreams, Miracle, Raging Bull, etc.
I've seen every one in my collection (more than once!) and I'm looking to add some new ones.
Any suggestions? |

| | Posted: | | | | One of my all time favorites is "The Program" with James Caan. Darn good movie about Highschool Football. "Varsity Blues" is kind of ok, though not a "must buy". If you can get it cheap, it's worth a shot. "The Replacements" is an awesome American Football comedy. Then there's the classix: "Armadillo Bears" and, of course, "Wildcats" with Goldie Hawn.
More on the drama side, I enjoyed "Remember the Titans" with Denzel Washington.
As you can see, I heavily lean towards American Football, as that's what I actively played here in Germany for fourteen years. | | | | Lutz |

The Club with Jack Thompson! A great comedy about Aussie Rules Football. |

I especially like " For Love of the Game", Vin Scully's commentary as Kevin Costner pitches the last inning (" And tonight, I think he might be able to use that aching old arm one more time to push the sun back up in the sky, and give us one more day of summer") gives me goose bumps every time I see it. There are some films I miss in that enumeration, though: " 61*" - Billy Crystal's movie about the race for Babe Ruth's home run record between Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle in the 1961 season " A League of Their Own" - Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna in the movie about the 1943 Girl's baseball league " Fever Pitch" - Great romantic comedy with Drew Barrymore (playing a woman in love with a die hard Red Sox fan) " Eight Men Out" - John Cusack, Charlie Sheen in this movie about the 1919 "Black Sox" scandal " The Rookie" - Dennis Quaid in a true story about a Sports teacher becoming a Major League pitcher at the age of 35 " Bang the Drum Slowly" - Robert De Niro (one of his earliest career performances) playing a dying catcher Other Sports movies not mentioned before: " Rocky", " Million Dollar Baby", " Any Given Sunday". " Friday Night Lights" seems to be an interesting TV series about high school football - I've read several reviews and ordered this series as a blind buy (will be released Aug 28). | | | | Michael |

| | Posted: | | | | Just watched Slap Shot for the first time in about 15-20 years and that held up really well. If you want a few laughs with your sports give it a go.
Any Given Sunday is a way underrated football flick. I don't understand why it seems so hated. |

| | Posted: | | | | Yeah, Slap Shot was hilarious. I remember seeing it in the theater. I normally wouldn't go to the theater to see something like this, but several of the players were actual players in the International Hockey League, and played for our local team. |
