I just noticed something.

I went to another post in another forum. I was reading some answers and noticed that the icons were there for the reputation vote.

I thought those could only be seen by the orginal poster. I clicked on a POSITIVE one because I thought his answer was very good and helpful ... but I have used up my 5 votes for the day and I was not able to submit my vote so I do not know if it would have worked or not.

I was NOT the original posted of the article I was reading.

It would! Everyone can vote on forum posts, no matter if they started the thread or not! I have passed out a positive vote on this thread, even though I didn't start it...

In short: You can vote for all posts in any thread provided that the posts is less than 48 hours old (or has been edited within the last 48 hours)...

EDIT: That's 72 hours, not 48...

So if I am to understand this correctly ... I CAN VOTE on a post in here that I did NOT start ... but I CAN NOT VOTE on a contribution unless I am the one who contributed it.

RIGHT?

Still, when you start at the normal reputation level, you need to go two levels down before you are hit with restrictions - and you need more then one vote to rise/fall a level.

So no, I very much doubt that a single post could earn you enough negative points to get slapped into the deep...

Well ... if you posted and say 20 people voted a NEGATIVE to you ... would that not be enough?

I don't know. Ken has not (and will not) tell us how many votes it takes to rise/fall a level - but he has said that the number is subject to change as the system is fine tuned. I would guess that he has taken this in to consideration...

Or do you only get 1 negative for a post ... no matter how many times you get voted on in the same post?

No, if twenty people vote negative on one post, you get 20 negative votes...
